Question re: rust on 2011 SR5

I am looking at purchasing a 2011 SR5 but saw some rust and was wondering if this looks like something serious. What does everyone think?

Look at the rumor that was started on the 3rd gen forum. Thinking Toyota was going to be replacing their 96 to 02 old frames .
It is not a good look though. You have to ask yourself how long do you intend to keep this vehicle?

Well this doesn't look all that bad. Some posts on here show less than one year old ones looking the same. My 2013 has seen one Iowa went and is nearly perfect. I have a few spots to touch up with black paint but they are smaller than my fingure nail. Then again I wash my truck regularly all winter every week or two. If you take care of it you should be OK. Just wash your underbody regularly.

Looks like the underside of my 2011 that's been in the north east. I've lived here all my life in the north east and every truck I've owned has a rusty frame. It's just a question of will that rust stay on the surface or will it penetrate deeper as the rest of the Toyota frames seem to suffer from.

Thanks for the responses. From the Carfax this SR5 was bought in Pennsylvania. It just looked like a lot of rust for a 2011. I am also looking at a 2012 (bought in Missouri) and there is barely any signs of rust in the same places.

Go with the one in MO. Take my advice. If you keep them clean the frame will outlast the powertrain even in the salt belt.:thumb:

As [MENTION=96111]gm4life[/MENTION] said, if you keep them clean underneath your vehicle will last.

From my own personal experience, go with the Missouri Runner. My past 4x4 (not a Toyota) came from the rust belt and it only made it 12 years before the rust become a major issue. The former owner (my father in law) did not wash underneath every two weeks in the winter to remove the salt and needless to say it didn't last once the vehicle was moved from up north to down south. The humidity seemed to help accelerate the rust. Less rust is always a good thing.
