Question: Showers on Long Off-Road Trips; T4R5G

Back in the day I used to travel and camp a lot, sleeping in the back of the various 4x4 trucks I had. A friend had a simple bag and hose camp shower and I decided to buy one.

The biggest problem I found was getting warm water. We often spent much of the day driving. The bag full of water needed hours in the sun to warm naturally. My buddy had an SUV with a rooftop rack, so he’d keep his up there. I had a pickup and camper shell, no rack, so I was SOL.

After a couple of cold showers, I gave up and went back to sponge baths after dark with water heated on my Coleman on the tailgate.

That Nemo Helio unit looks to be the best price/function and versatile product. Easy to collapse and clean after a trip and easy to use for different functions whether its for showers or to clean dishes etc. Also don't have to keep climbing up on the roof rack to fill, pressurize, clean etc a rack mounted item. (I ain't getting any younger!).

I also have the Nemo Helio LX and have been happy with it. I use it mostly to wash dishes, hands, brush teeth, etc, and use it for showers on longer trips where we have a base camp. I also always fill it with potable water so in a pinch I have extra drinkable water, albeit with a rubber taste. I would probably get the smaller one if I had to do it again.

Thanks for that suggestion. Seems to be a very versatile piece of gear that can collapse down to a very small size when empty.
