Questions on Prepaid Maintenance Plans

I searched the archives and read quite a few posts on Toyota Prepaid Maintenance Plans, but still have some questions. Hope someone can answer them.

1. I believe that the plans allow one's car to be serviced at any Toyota Dealership in the country. Is that true?

2. What is a good price for a 75k/5yr. service plan? Any recommended dealers like Midwest Toyota or someone?

3. Is it worth it from your perspective? (30k service is at $300+, 60k at $300+ and 3 more oil changes, tire rotations etc.)

I did it and i think it was the best thing ever. I love being able to come into the dealer and say take care of it and not have to worry about paying a dime at the cashier. Then when Toyota changed the service interval from 5k to 10k they went ahead and upgraded to unlimited miles in 5yrs! Oh what a feeling!

My dealer told me the cost was $200 but, "supposedly", didn't add that in to my deal. I'm sure I paid for it somewhere, it just isn't a line item on my bill of sale. It was probably backed out of my trade-in. Anyway, nobody mentioned that I could get service at any dealership, but that may be true. Mine is for the life of my vehicle ownership, regardless of miles, so I assume that means it is not transferrable. The way it was explained to me is that Toyota is covering the cost for the first 2 years or 25k miles (I won't hit 25k in 2 years) and the dealership covers the cost from that point on. I guess it's possible, given that scenario, that I could get the first 2 years at any dealer.

It depends on what the dealer is charging you. My dealer was jacking the price up so much, he said it was like paying for all the services at today's prices up front. I would not be charged for any future price increases. Secondly he said it could be put into the loan.

I thought he was smokin crack and didn't pay for it. I would consider if paying up front gave me a 50% discount on all services.

If you buy the plan from Toyota, you can use it at any Toyota dealership. I would shop around on line. Some dealers will offer better deals than others. I generally like them. You are basically prepaying your repair costs, but have insurance against disaster. They can also help on resale as they are normally transferable.
