My '17 is about 7 months old now, and the flattened/pancake piece of the exhaust that hangs down is already showing signs of surface rust. I know it's not a big deal as far as function, but has anyone tried painting this piece with a rust encapsulator or something similar? I wasn't sure if I should bother, since it might burn off when the exhaust gets hot.

It's unpainted and unprotected for reason........
It's not worth the effort considering that if/when it is an issue:
No one will notice it or give it a second look.
You will have sold the rig by then.
If it does need fixed, someone else will do the work anyway..
I see no upside other than to squash the OCD demons and even then you might never win........

I'm mostly being OCD because it's my first new car. I'd like to keep it for a long time, so I want to be sure I'm doing everything I can in terms of preventative maintenance from the beginning.
I've never seen that, but obviously Loctite makes good stuff. I'll have to check it out. Have you ever used it on an exhaust pipe? Or anything that gets hot?
