Quick extended warranty question

It's insurance, plain and simple. I bought it, and am not even sure why, never have before, first Toyota maybe?, first year of the 5th Gen maybe? .. dunno.

I used Jerry's pricing, after negotiating the sale, and the dealer matched at +$50.

My thought was amortizing the EW annually over the addl 5 years made it very reasonable to me. Would I have bought at the dealer's price? No.

I had brake issues out of wty, and my EW way-more than paid for itself, AND I still have it for some time.

For those of you postponing 'til further out: I'd not do that. I would not be surprised if Toyota succumbs to dealer complaints and stops the 3rd party purchase of the EW. Just MHO.

When I purchased mine, the dealer wanted $1490 for 7yr/75k miles. I went with it at first because I was told that it's a 'now or more expensive later' type of deal. Went home, did some homework (thanks) and ended up cancelling that contract and signing one without the warranty. When asked why I wanted to cancel, I simply said because for the price and the miles/years it simply seems like too much compared to others. That AND he didn't disclose that I could add on extended warranty anytime before 3yr/35k. Needless to say I will start shopping around at some point at other dealerships/online to hopefully come up with a better deal. Seems pretty screwy to me how difficult and clouded this whole extended warranty program is across the board.
