Quiet Please V8 vs. V6

There is a good reason for why this topic stirs up such emotion. It is simple envy. Don't be jealous because your neighbor has something nicer then you do. Do the best you can, and stay within your financial budget.

For the record, I do not judge myself or other people by the vehicle I/they drive. I know many people who likely have a lot more money than you do who choose to drive very ordinary, unassuming vehicles. It's mainly because they are very secure in who they are and do not have the need to make themselves feel superior by driving a nicer ride than their neighbors. In additon, many wealthier people than I, and probably you, just aren't into cars. They would rather spend their money traveling or perhaps have a summer home at the beach, along with a nice boat, for example.

Get a freakin' life! Believe me, if I were losing sleep because I was envious of V8 4Runner owners, I would go out and buy one today (which I can afford)! Either that or I would check with a psychiatrist to find out what was wrong with me.

[EDIT] By the way, what's up with the "4WD Or Don't Talk To Me" monicker near your user name? I should go out and get a 2WD just so I don't have to!

If this is not a sorry example of V8 envy I don't know what is. Be happy with what you have.

There was an article in the Sunday paper one time about people that choose 2wd and 4 wd. People that live in areas that don't get bad weather normally get 2wd. No distinction was made about education or earning capacity. It was said though that overall they had no special interest in their vehicles other then basic maintenance.

In areas that receive heavy snow or bad weather, there was a big difference in people that chose 2wd or 4wd. 4WD people in the survey had more education, made more money then their 2wd counterparts, and were more knowledgeable about their vehicles then the people that purchased 2WD.

Chances are if I have a question, a 4WD person will be the most knowledgeable source of information. I rather hang around people that know more then me, not less.

If this guy believes that having a V8 is so much better than a V6 as far as status goes, and V6 owners lust to have a V8, but can't afford it, then why the hell is this guy buying a 4Runner if he has so much money?

I mean, what is a good analogy for this? Shopping at Wal-Mart and arguing that one tube TV is better than another when you could just go buy a flat screen? Someone help me out here...

Please elaborate, what do you mean? Envy is a horrible thing. Talk to a group of Corvette owners that never park funny or take up more then one space. Chances are a person in that group had their car keyed by a jealous person for no reason other then envy. It is not my intention to fight with people about such a silly thing. In my honest opinion this is the reason for all the hostility.

Do you honestly believe that most, if not all, of the V6 owners here are envious of the V8 owners?

Let me get this straight. In your world, I REALLY need a V8, but for the extra $1,000 - $2,000 on a $30k+ vehicle, I just couldn't afford it, and now I go through life praying for the opportunity to scratch someone else's V8 because they are obviously superior to me, and I want to damage their property in order to take out my vengeance.

You have a lot to learn about life and what is really important in this world, and, just to clue you in, two extra cylinders are not what it's all about.
