Radiator fluid exploded underneath car?

I only had a second right now to look at it but couldn't see anything out of wack. Just came back to the house and had some slight smoke coming out pulling in, right when I got into the driveway I noticed nearly all of my coolant spilled down to the street. The 'smoke' was the coolant dripping onto my headers. I tried looking at the obvious connectors without seeing an issue, but I can't source the leak because it was everywhere. Here are a couple pics I snapped. Anyone have any guesses in the meantime? Won't have time until tomorrow to get under it.

You'll need to find the leak.

When you fill it back up, open the cap and put fluid in until the absolute top of the rad is filled.

One time I didn't fill it to the absolute top and expanding hot air in the radiator burped out all the fluid and I was running dry overheating.

Also, I this is obvisous to many people (but was news to me), the overflow expansion tank does not cycle coolant, even though at first glance it sort of looks like it does. It is only for overflow when the pressure changes. Fluid does not move through that overflow tank like a pump system.

Good luck with finding the leak. I have ramps if you need help.

A quick pop under the hood was all it took. Here's the culprit...have absolutely no idea how it happened but the plastic tubing under the hose sheared off completely from the unit being held in place. Seems to be a rather simple fix, any ideas on part and cost anyone?

It's the heater control valve. Most parts stores probably carry them for around $30.00.

Of course don't drive your 4Runner without fixing it, first.

Just to update and close this thread for future reference.

O'Reilleys has it for $47.99, and like Warthog said, dealer wants $125 or so. Went to a local junkyard and talked the guy down to $30 cash. Easy fix.

Interesting, the local (to home) O'Reilly's has it for $29.99. I guess O'Reilly's choose to charge more in SD.

Hopefully the junkyard heater control valve isn't on the verge of failure.
