Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

I noticed in these pics of the radio you posted that you're fan speed selector switch in your climate control doesn't light up. This is the knob all the way on the left, with the HI, LOW and a couple of circles that don't light up. Did yours happen after you installed the radio? That's what happened to me. Does anyone know what causes this? Any ideas how to fix it? From what I've gathered it's just one bulb behind there so it can't just be that the bulb burnt out.
My bulb on right side of info display didn't work either after geek squad installed my pioneer - not sure what caused it. They ordered a replacement bulb for me and replaced it for free so now it works fine but it seems these bulbs need to be handled with care.

I'm actually in the process of installing a pioneer 4100nex. There are two antenna looking plugs that come out of the stock unit and only one port on the new head unit for the bigger of the two plugs. Can anyone tell me if I only use the one plug? Also I'm getting poor reception. Any input or anyone have pictures they can post of their install.

This will fix your problem Metra 40UV43 antenna adapter

You're getting bad reception because only one half of the antenna is plugged into the radio.

4th Gen Trail Radio?

Gents, I've got to ask: has anyone installed a radio on a 4th gen Trail Edition or UrbanRunner? They both have that TomTom unit. I'm about halfway through an install and it's a bit odd. None of the major radio manufacturers seem to have accounted for it, but the folks at Crutchfield are working to get a new guide out.

This thread helped me a ton when I was doing installation on my Urban Runner.

What equipment do you have? Let's see some other pics! Where we can actually see the units. :naughty:

It's a cheapy 7 in moniter and a pioneer single din. I have 2 rear cams(1 pointing down and one pointing back. 1 front cam and a apple lightning to hdmi for mirroring. I just moved the radio forward attached lcd and added a bezel.

Kenwood DDX9902S. Great unit, being able to talk/text and use a variety of apps through android auto is fun. Hopefully they expand more and more, because currently the music apps suck. They really engineered it so the user wasn't playing with their screen the whole time driving, so much so that I despise using it for music.

Kenwood ddx 470 with my urbanrunner trim ring. It sounds a million times better than the horrid tomtom navigation piece of crap. My 20 year old truck with only one working oem speaker sounded better than that thing lol. Anyway it's got bt, iPod, cd, dvd, sub and speaker outputs, and backup camera. It's great but it sometimes has problems with connecting to my phone and I have yet to get the backup camera to work. Also, this is just my opinion, I'm not a big fan of the operating system. I feel it's lacking in several areas. This specific model is discontinued but kenwood replaced with with the ddx471 HD which I think is the exact same thing just HD.

Kenwood DNN992.

I've always really liked Kenwood HU's (did Car Stereo install in my 20's). This HU went into my 02 4RNR without issue. All OE speakers were changed to Polk Audio 6.5's and I added 2x 8" subs to the storage compartment
in the rear passenger side of the vehicle.

Just need to figure out how to change the startup splash screen and the animated wallpapers on this thing and I'll be all set!

EDIT: Didnt realize these photo's were so huge. Sorry about that.

I've always been an aftermarket HU guy, and I just put a Pioneer AVIC 8100 Nex in the Rav4 that my wife took back when I got the 'Runner, but I've been trying to make peace with the OEM HU because I can't match the metal flake black trim. So far the best I've figured I can do is get the silver stereo install kit and paint it black. I did that for the Rav's install kit and that looks great but the interior trim was matte black. The 'Runner's metallic black looks sharp but makes matching all but impossible.

Couple PMs about my android deck and torque. Yes it works great and I can data log a whole bunch of obd2 data. Don't mind my lower display I'll fix it one of these days lol.

So whats the deal with the Scion radios? Are they a direct plug and play? I'm trying to figure out why you would go with a Scion radio over an aftermarket one.

Yours is simple like mine, my open den is on the top because I was tires of the 400$ alphine unit with no usable features without buying another 200$ plug to use it, I made a dag kit fir it out if previous ones I owned I'll post a pic later

Technically a down grade going from a double din alphine, to a single din old Sony I had laying around, made the dash kit out of random parts I had.
Alphine looks good on paper but you have to buy every nice feature extra such as bluetooth and just being able to plug it into an amp. It on my works with apple products via usb.
Anyways rant over hers the alphine

Basically swapped for sub usage, cd, and this old Sony puts better sound out than the alphine

Looks good. Luckily my alpine has all the bells and whistles probably a newer. Version.
