I would like to add, for those who don't like adding any new holes to their vehicle, that there is a backup camera that is a straight swap for one of your license plate lights.

The exact camera I used was this one (there are several similar ones)

Also worth nothing that I did a "clean" install through my liftgate and needed an extra rca cable. The red line that runs through it is for a trigger wire which I connected at my taillight so that I did not need to tap any factory wires under the dash for a reverse signal.

How was the quality of this camera? Is the license plate light bulb the same type as the original bulb? Is the camera fixed or adjustable?

I am using the license plate frame camera at the moment which shows very well and it is adjustable. Thinking of possibly upgrading as this seems it would make it look more factory.

I'd like to know this as well as I want to add a rear camera to my Joying unit. They are trying to sell me theirs, but I want something more OEM. I added LED bulbs to my stock lights so curious to see if the light in the camera location would be as bright or is the same bulb, then of course how well the camera works.

I will get you guys some comparison photos soon. The led in the camera is way different than oem bulb. Cool led color vs warm incandescent color. I believe it matches up to my led's that I swapped all the bulbs for but Im not sure.

So I'm set on getting a Joying android unit to replace my OEM JBL Nav unit. My question is will this work with the OEM amp/10 speaker system? Also, there are so many different models and it seems like the only difference is the faceplate or screen size. Which model is the best one that would fit the 03-09 4runner?

I had the Axxess ASWC and it stopped working within a year.

im glad i took out the metra axxess aswc and use the idatalink maestro, so much easier to program and install. also responsive.

I have the axxess. Zero complaints. Cut a couple wires. Hit a reset button. Auto detects. Works great.

depending on the radio you have, if the radio has the ability to use the maestro RR get it. im pretty sure that just allows you to control some hvac and have live vehicle data. the maestro sw is fine for single din radio, or radios that just dont have the rr capability.

My Kenwood DNX890HD does support it. My concern is having it use occupy my OBD II as I plan on installing an UltraGauge

even if you get the maestro RR, all you doing is tapping the wires from the back of the odb 2 plug, it dosent actually plug in the plug itself.

i just check crutchfield on your radio, looks like at the bottom of the page, it says your radio is compatible with the maestro rr.

Was itching to get a double din headunit with navigation, but was unhappy with my options. Best ones out there are just too expensive IMO. Looked into mounting a tablet in dash, nothing I was happy with there either.

Decided I'd just get a solid budget headunit that had bluetooth, usb, mp3 capabilities. I guess better known as digital media receiver. My compromise on the navigation was that I use a small tablet mount off to the side. I was ok with this as I always have some sort of small tablet, and because the main purpose of the tablet is for my co-pilot (wife) to navigate while we are on long trips. I use my phone for any solo driving where I need navigation.

For headunit I settled on the Sony MEX-XB100BT
It had great reviews, and is the highest power in dash receiver available. So not having to wire up an amp is a plus in my book. I'm not a crazy audiophile, but some extra wattage was welcome.

I had some Best Buy credit to use after trading in an old iPhone a while back. They don't have the best selection in stereo stuff, especially that fits our vehicles. Ended up getting the following speakers:
Pioneer 6" x 9" TS-A6985R
Pioneer 6.5" TS-A1675R

Bought some Metra speaker connector adapters to make install easier
Metra part number: 72-810

As well as some Metra speaker adapters to fit 6x9's up front
Metra part number: 82-8146

And lastly a Metra mount (with pocket)
Metra part number: Metra 99-8206

I'm happy with the sound, given that I probably only spent $260 out of pocket (subtracting the speaker costs of ~$100 as I had 'free' credit to use). Install wasn't bad at all, wish I had a better quality mounting kit however. Just seems a bit flimsy and not quite as polished at the faceplate area.

what dash kit is that? try using the iso mount bracket method. the standard radio cage mount you have makes it look funny.

Pioneer AVIC 5000NEX. The hardest part of the install was stuffing in all the adapters up into the dash(Sirius tuner, PAC-TATO, ASWC-1, Bluetooth, GPS wiring, etc.)

Came with USB input that I wired down through the console. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean this up?
