Radio Upgrades... Let see them.

New update. My custom modified CB radio started to turn itself off and on intermittently. If you co back and look this was a BearCat880 with the case chopped down and the top 1/8" of the front bezel milled off and Orange Lighting Film over the internal LED's installed into the dash with a single din head unit.
Needless to say, I was not happy if this thing was going to crap out seeing how much work it took to get it in the first time.
Well I did a little shopping and found something awesome!
President CB Radio has a true single din model know. It is the McKinley.

Correct screen color, true single din, front speaker, PA capable, works with my current BearCat wireless mic.

This thing picks up and transmits way better than the 880. It has some patented "automatic squelch control" that is fabulous. I leave it on all the time and only hear the good stuff.

I Love it.

and come to find out when I took out the 880 I found the problem. The inline fuse holder. The plastic kind you slip together and quarter twist to lock. One of the lock tabs had broken off.

radio is not installed right , need to have the top of the radio sit flush with the kit, just slide the radio in deeper, the actual screen will stick out a little on the kit at the top.

radio is not installed right , need to have the top of the radio sit flush with the kit, just slide the radio in deeper, the actual screen will stick out a little on the kit at the top.

I thought the same thing, but the radio is sitting as far back in the brackets as it can and the brackets are tightly seated against the vehicle frame. Short of finding different holes on the side of the head unit (and I tried multiple combinations, but maybe I’m missing something), drilling new holes in the bracket, and/or trimming off the bottom piece of the trim kit, I haven’t been able to figure it out. The head unit sat in the same exact orientation with the factory brackets. It looks to me like only the top of the head unit needs to slide further in ... the face plate is too vertical now (which makes sense because the faceplate on the factory head unit had some tilt to it but the Pioneer doesn’t). I’m open to suggestions ...

your radio have a few mounting holes for the screws, use the other one where you can get the top of radio to sit flush with the kit, the bottom will always have some depth to it. if you go back a page and look at other user's install, you might know im trying to tell you.

Gotcha ... I assume you're referring to RobD's install. I'll ask him for advice. Thanks.

I have a Limited and installed the AVH2300NEX with the Metra 95-8210 kit.

I've been pointed to your pic of a properly installed Pioneer head unit using the Metra 95-8210 trim kit. Do you have any recollection which of the holes on the side of the head unit you used to attach the Metra bracket?

Awesome! Post up some photos of how you do the install. I went with the Pioneer camera because it was only $50 on ebay. Your setup looks great. I'm considering adding that AUX port but I just can't imagine using it now.

I did the aux and USB in case a passenger wants to plug a device in at some point. I'll be installing one of the cameras that actually replaces the entire license plate light assembly.

I don't. I even went through my pictures and I don't have any of the side. I'm pretty sure they were at the front of the deck. The kit should align with the factory holes, since they are a pretty standardized system.

I haven't done any updates to the HU yet.

Mic doesn't seem to be working. Need to diagnose.
Have a hum/buzz noise in the radio.
Reception kinda sucks.

That’s the kind of camera I want to install as it seems like the cleanest, most OEM looking way. I hate the ones that mount to the plate anyway, but where I live it really isn’t an option anyway since they will fail your inspection if you block any part of the license plate. I’ve even seen people fail for an aftermarket plate frame! :wtf: Have you found a good camera of that style yet? I’ve seen them on sites like eBay, but they always seem to ship from China and look cheaply made. I don’t mind paying a bit more if I can find a nice quality one that will last.

I'mm just trying a Chinese one. lol If it's not good. At least I already ran the cabling.

Thanks to both of you ... my kit does line up with the factory bracket holes in the side of the head unit, I guess I just didn't move the trim kit far enough forward on the head unit. I tried to kind of "split the difference" in terms of how much of the trim kit is in front of the head unit faceplate and how much of it is behind ... looks like I should be lining up the top of the trim kit with the front of the faceplate (if that makes any sense). And I was probably more focused on trying to get the head unit to tilt back a little to better align with the trim.

Yes, I used the Maestro RR w/T01 harness ... took a little work to match the wiring diagram to the real world harness, but once installed it's worked flawlessly.

Sorry, that was supposed to have said Maestro RR w/T01 harness (fixed) ... not Metra. The Maestro RR looks similar in size to the PAC PR4.2-TY11, so any advice is welcome.
