Regearing is for weenies. Do the deckplate mod and get a better muffler for more power.

My advice:
Don't re-gear if you are only going to run 33's. Deal with the ass pain of less power for now. If you re-gear now and then decide later on that you want to go to a larger tire you will of wasted a lot of time and money on those gears.
As far as 35s and 5.29.... Don't do it unless it's a trail only rig. Yeah, I have 35's and 5.29s but again I don't DD it. I use it to drive to the trail, pull out Jeeps, wheel and drive home. 5.29s with 35s will put your RPMs in the stupid range when at highway speeds. 4.88's would probably be better if you really want 35s.
I don't understand why so many on this site are against re-gearing.
running with larger tires, and the correct gearing is AWESOME. the engine, and transmission are better off when they are working AS designed.
as far as 5.29/35's. that all depends on the engine/transmission you have. with my 22re its PERFECT. it puts the engine back to just about stock.
hes running a 4cyl, it wont have near the pull your 3.4 has.
5.29s/35's would probably be just about right.
marcel, if you want to run 33's, I think re-gearing it is an excellent idea. as you can see, most people don't think that way. which, I think is silly. spend all the money to mod the truck, only to hinder it with retarded high gearing, and heavy tires...
I don't know what your stock gearing is, but if you are running an auto, you'll want to go just slightly lower, id expect 4.88's would be good for the 33's, but you could probably get away with 4.56's.
cool chart. This chart will help the OP decide:

I am certainly not against re-gear so don't group me in with those martians. I am just try to get the OP to be smart about re-gearing and not waste money if he is going to increase tire size later on. I guess I didn't explain that very well. My fault.
