Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

13.2 L/100KM (17.8 MPG). Brutal right now. Stock size Hankook DynaPro with Bilstein 5100s at 1.75". Mobil 1 Full Synthetic Advance Fuel Economy. 85,000 KMs.

I'm all ears for how to improve this, its making me even think about finding another vehicle.

the main things to improve it would be to get rid of your AT tires and your lift, and remove any unnecessary weight

after that install skinny low rolling resistance economy tires, lower the vehicle, remove your rack and side mirrors, tape over gaps in the front leaving just enough open for the radiator, follow hypermiling best practices, hate life, etc...

Thanks for the reply that we can find sprinkled throughout this thread a lot of smart guys thinking they're funny.

All of us are looking for constructive pieces of information besides the obvious removal items that make our 4Runner's ours. Whether that is a spark plug change, third part air filter, etc.

None, the serious answer is none. Make sure your tires are inflates properly and your vehicle is in good condition. Slow down, go easy on throttle.

We spend a lot of weekends at our mountain place, and take the 4Runner every time. It's 140 miles round trip, top speed on the highway is mainly 55 mph (Highway 285 out of Denver) and there is a net elevation difference of about 3,800 feet. I generally average around 20mpg for the trip, if I drive super conservative, I can get 21mpg.

It's a slow uphill climb for a majority of the trip there. If my wife were to drive, the MPG would most likely bump up another 1 or 2 mpg, but then I'd be stuck with a cat on my lap for the whole trip...

The rest of the time the 4Runner is in around-town mode, and we get about 18MPG.

P, C,D, E? What is the load rating, its the numbers after the tire size on the tire.

This hand calculates to 21.03 mpg, and was admittedly mostly highway. I typically get about 19.5-20 with local driving in the Poconos.

Stock except Thule bike rack on the roof, Air Lift bags and LT 265/70-17 BFG KO2's, load range C.

To many people's chagrin on this forum, Toyota engineered the 4Runner to be about as fuel efficient in stock form as one will ever get. Assuming you don't want to go back to stock and you're looking to improve fuel economy, based on the information in your post, you might drop those front 5100s down to .85; remove roof rack when driving and it's not in use; be very mindful of your 'eco' bar; and you didn't say whether your Dynapros were P or LT. If LT, you might switch to P. Given the stock power plant, ecu and transmission, there's not much more to be done, cost efficiently. There is no silver bullet; no 'vornado,' cat back system, headers, CAI, retune, or any combination of them, that will return your lifted rig with AT tires to stock fuel efficiency, though they'll put a hole in your wallet and perhaps sound good.

Shit I wish I got 22 mph! In getting like 16.7 sometimes 15.9 its a 2016 4runner trail HELPPPPPP lol:flamethrwoer2: :laser:

In the hundreds of thousands of miles I've put on, the single greatest factor is how you mount the right foot. Take it easy on the throttle, set cruise control at a moderate speed, lift throttle and coast to stops where practical, and avoid idling.

That's the shitty part, I work 10 mins away from work, so I jump on the freeway and chill at stop lights until I'm at work :(

2017 TRD Pro Stock, I drive about 68 miles each way to work at mostly highway speeds. I have about 550 mile logged so far and I get approx. 16.3 mpg. I don't expect to ever see 20 mpg
