Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

Yeah I don't get it either. When I got my truck, it was reading 13-14 mpg stock. And this was never going over 2500 rpm, driving like a snail. Now I'm lifted with 285/70/17 and still driving like a snail and it's reading 11mpg. People keep telling me this is right, but I call BS.

Bay Area meaning hilly? This is one of the largest factors.
My driving style is very similar to yours, though mine is almost entirely city/congested highway traffic. I'm not sure what yours is like.

Before any modifications, I was seeing 17 MPG. With everything listed in my signature, I'm regularly seeing 15 MPG.

Once I add the Gobi rack, I expect the fuel mileage to suffer more, though I probably won't notice it as the highways around me might as well be parking lots.

My wife is averaging 15.5, when I drive I can usually get a couple tenths but it alwayd drops back down by the time I have the opportunity to drive it again. The truck has less than 2500 miles.

On my '16 Trail I am getting 17.7 so far. 37 miles a day on backroads, not bad I guess... The truck has about 530 miles so far. Thinking about a minor lift, wondering what that will do to it [emoji53]

15' SR5 currently at 14 city and 20 hwy with "E" rated KO2 270's. I was at 15 city and 21 hwy with the 265's...no complaints here after going bigger.

There are hills here, but I rarely ever drive on them. To put it in perspective, my stock 2002 sr5 4Runner being driven normally was getting 17-18 mpg on the same terrain not being babied.

If anyone is concerned about fuel mileage, I wouldn't buy a truck or SUV. Get a prius. I have one as a daily driver and I average 46mpg in LA traffic.

I didn't buy this truck for the fuel economy, but I do monitor it.

The first 5000 miles I drove the 4Runner, I averaged 13-15 mpgs in a variety of city driving.

From 5000-9100 the average has gone up to 18-19mpg. I have been driving more highway lately and my current average is 19.6 which has stayed steady for the last 4 weeks.

I use Automatic to log my trips and it's interesting to see how the car performs over various types of trips.

Today I drove 40 miles on I5 mostly on a slight incline grade using the cruise control set at 69mph and averaged 22.2 MPG (using Automatic's calculation, not the 4runner's). That's pretty good.

I've got a 2016 TRD Pro and city driving in Houston I seem to be stuck at 13.8 MPG. On the highway I get between 17-18 MPG.

I'm sure the aggressive thread ties take a hit in the MPG department.

2016 TEP, now with about 1,500 miles.

This is my wife's DD, so there is a lot of 'around town' driving, supplemented with weekend trips to our mountain place. On the last combined city/mountain trip, we averaged right at 19.5MPG (with about 15 miles of 4H/4L easy trail exploring included).

I think that is pretty good considering we start at 5700 feet and climb to over 10,000 on the way there. Needless to say, the average MPG by the time we get there is about 17.4MPG, but we make it up on the way home, which is mostly downhill :-)

Here's the elevation profile, so you can see we get some pretty good grades along the way:

New low = Last week on "TREK 300" while crawling thru sand with rocks for 20 miles between Fourmile Flat and Cocoon Mountain in LO 1ST I got 8.5 mpg.

Achieving or exceeding EPA estimates is closely aligned with the presence of your green eco light, in my experience. I've found that urban and some suburban driving warrant driving patterns that are downright hostile to your Eco light, if you pay attention to such things as fuel efficiency.

2016 limited - stock tire set up for now. I drive mostly in town 40 mile round trip commute. I am averaging in the 17 to 18 mpg. I haven't driven a long trip on the interstate yet. Pleased with all wheel drive getting 17mph. I was driving an lx570 averaging 12.7 a filling up every 290 miles.

2016 Trail, stock tires and suspension.

After my first 2 tanks of gas, averaging 18.2 mpg.

Probably 60-70% highway driving. Pretty flat where I live.

About to put a lift and 285's, will update with new data after that.

Stock 2016 T4RTE w/KDSS and around 1200 miles so far. The only mod has been adding 65 pounds to the roof in the form of a BajaRack.

17.1MPG average.

17.5 is about Max for mixed driving. LESS on long highway trips since the 4 Runner does not favor hi highway speeds. Maybe 15-16 highway.

2016 Trail on 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT2's and I've been averaging 14.5 MPG. Most of my driving is in the city with very little highway driving. My last fill up was the best one yet at 14.978 MPG. I have a 2 road trips planned for July and I'm hoping to get at least 18 MPG :D
