Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

95% city driving on stock size Duratracs and I average 17.5 or so. I drive like an old man, though. 31k miles and she's been running in the mid-17s since new.

Checked our 2016 last night and it was 19.1 with 713 miles on it. New wheels and tires are going on next week so we will see if it changes.

Highway sees 10.5-11.5 l/100km

I will be installing 5100's @ 0.85" and getting rid of these god awful stock tires on a trail edition!

Calculated the old fashioned way. The 4Runner's calculation is a bit more optimistic;-)

Stock tires, stock SR5 wheels - fall: 19-21 MPG
Cooper M+S tires, FN wheels - late fall/winter: 17-20 MPG

Pretty good, IMHO. I'd sacrifice some MPGs to have a V8 again though if I had a choice....

I second that on the V8. My old 2011 F150 with a 5.0 and 385 HP would get better mileage than our 4Runner.

That's funny. I had a '13 F150 before . . . with the the "Coyote" 5.0. Loved that engine!

I just scratch my head. . . Toyota makes such high quality . . . and yet they really miss the mark by not offering V-8s, more HP, Diesel, etc etc.

But who am I kidding? . . . I'm hooked on Toyotas!

Just a data from 2016 Land Cruiser 150 available in Europe:

Engine 1GD-FTV 2,8 D-4D (177 HP) 6 A/T diesel:

4 cylinder inline, 2755cc
177 Hp at 3400rpm
torque 332 ft-lb at 1600–2400
24mpg city, 37mpg highway, 32mpg average

This is quite mixed feeling, nice low rpm torque and gas mileage, but I guess you would probably miss these 100hp on highway.

I just completed a 2500 mile trip, iam lifted 3" on a 2016 TRD Pro, i have slightly larger tired than stock- i got 13.8 mpg. I was so impressed with the power and performance of the 4.0. Felt as good as a v8. I also have a 2016 Tacoma TRD 4x4 that gets the exact fuel milage as the 4runner. It has the new 3.5 v6. Go figure?

I couldn't agree more. That Coyote V8 is a beast and absolutely sounds amazing. Although I told myself I would never own a Toyota, my wife really loves her 4Runner as do I. But if it only gets 15-19 MPG, why not put a V8 in it?! We can all only keep our fingers crossed it'll happen again!

From spring thru fall, I average around 19.5 with mine. But since the cold weather hit I'm around 18.7 per the computer.

my 2016 the MPG was 19-20 in the warm weather now since the 40 deg F temps and colder hit its 17.8 MPG.

my guess it will continue to drop when the real cold hits ...

Just registered on the forum today after lurking here for a week or so. A 2010 trail Edition is on my short list and I was wondering what kind of milage you are all getting real world compared to the claimed 17 city, 22 hwy. My 97 SR5 2WD gets 19/20 city and 22 hwy. Thank you! Great forum.

I think the mantra of "every major change to your rig will bring you down 1mpg" is spot on. I started a 17city and 20 highway. I am now at 14 and 15 respectively with a 3.5" lift, a winch, and a roof rack with lights. The biggest change I think actually came from the rack and lights which reduced the aerodynamics of the vehicle on the highway significantly. We will see how she does in the summertime!

Was never a believer in getting 20+ mpg in a 5th gen, but I actually got 20.5 mpg on this fill up! Pretty much all highway miles. I always fill up and calculate mpg's by dividing the trip meter by how many gallons to full. Pretty impressed!

In town, between 13-15.8

This thing is like driving a tall brick down the interstate.. and it's heavy with AWD & 3rd row, 17-21 is a pipe dream.

First interstate trip MPG

So Monday I took the first or soon to be many Interstate trips with my 4Runner.

It was great, she drove great other than sucking down gas. I was surprised that the tank MPG was 17.9 versus my previous 2 tanks of about 18.9.

Granted my 4Runner is still getting broken in, but this is the first vehicle I've ever owned that got worse MPG on interstate than on highways.

Granted I could have gotten better MPG but I drove my usual 80+ MPH on the interstate. But still happy overall

Well yeah, but to me highway is usually around 60-70 MPH roads that are Different than the 70-90 MPH interstates.
