Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

We just drove 370 miles from Gdansk to Wroclaw all non stop highway (with one stop for fuel) at 75-85 mph (speed limit is 90 mph here). In 2012 SR5 no mods besides BFG KO2 C rated, I got 18.0 mpg.

Proving that 5Runner does not like to go fast, now driving last 70 miles in the city and some country roads (mostly 35-50mph) the computer jumped up to 18.5 mpg. Did not fuel up yet.

Just did about 90 miles. Straight interstate at approx 70mph. Computer says 20.9 mpg. I'm pretty happy with that. I'll doublecheck when I get back to see how accurate that is with manual calculations.

Drove 240 miles roundtrip with approx. 15% city driving and some idle time and ended up with 19mpg. The return trip always uses more gas because its more up-grade. The city dropped it down some as well. I did 70 the entire way on the interstate... It's around what I expected and I'm ok with it. What's odd to me, my Hemi Commander got almost the same and it weighed 500lbs more, had 60hp more and 100lb-ft more of torque... Don't want it back though. It seems I'm in line with what others are getting. :thumb3:

Drove from Saint Louis to Pittsburgh @ 78 mph on cruise control. Round trip mileage was 17.5 indicated.

2016 Limited with TRD Pro wheels and tires.

Normally, in Grandpa mode of mixed driving, I get around 20 mpg.

Proving that 5Runner does not like to go fast

Another test on fast vs slow. I went for a 250 miles trip, half of it was 85mph freeway, the rest just country roads with speed between 55mph and 25mph (in towns). On the freeway I was driving speed limit and watching how the computer indicated mpg was steady dropping from 18.5 to 17.5mpg. Then on country roads it started to go up.

On the way back just before I got to 85mph freeway the computer was showing 18.3mpg. It was late night so I decided to go easy, set the cruise control to 68mph and drove for the next 2 hours. By the end of the road the computer showed 18.7mpg.

So driving a bit slower saves a lot of fuel, but also I did not like 85mph speed. The wind noise became quite noticeable and my mirrors were whistling. No mentioning that I had to pass slower cars and trucks all the time and still got zoomed by speeding BMWs a.k.a. "Bandit Motor Wagen" (on Polish freeways we drive on the right lane at all time except for passing).

I usually get about 14mpg daily driving, and 18mpg cruising on the fwy. 3in lift with 285 at tires. I can live with that.

Drove from Austin to Atlanta to Huntsville. About 1000 miles on brand new SR5 with 4WD. Probably averaged 75 mph and the display says 19.6 mpg. Can't complain

Hey just wondering if any of you out there have made any modifications to the engine that resulted in better mpg? I am assuming there are some out there for that purpose, but am not 100% sure. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Toyota spends Billion$ on vehicle efficiency just to get a few tenths of a mpg. You think they would not use a mod if it worked? ???

My truck has just over 2k miles. Saturday I drove around Richmond on I295 @ 75 mph. Then we took I-64 west to Charlottesville @ 75 to 79 mph. Then down Rt 29 for 10 miles @ 65. A total of 1.5 hours.
Later the two of us and the dog retraced the route going home. When I bought gas I calculated the mpg - 19.9. Not bad for rolling hills.

18.5-19 mpg city/hwy after switching to stock size, mild p-rated all terrain tires. Lost 1-1.5 mpg.

2016 Limited Highway

Drove about 1 1/2 hours on the highway. Not measured but the truck's computer reported out 20.7 MPG. Damn close to the rated 21 on the highway. Was doing about 60 to 75 MPR. No slow downs in traffic. My impression is that it does ok at speed. Any, and I mean any, acceleration from a stop or up a grade just absolutely eats gas to get the 4runner moving. More so than any other vehicle I've owned. But who cares? It's regular gas. Concerned about future gas prices... Buy some oil company stock and hedge your costs of high gas prices.

I am only getting 16.3 in the 4runner I picked up this month. $40 dollar fill ups and terrible mpgs really make me wish it had a v8, then I wouldnt care as much. I cant believe they have the 4.7 (one of the best engines ever) and did not put it in the 4runner this generation.

Did 2,300 miles through Texas to Colorado and back, loaded around 5,600 lbs or so, averaged roughly 16.8 on Interstates and mostly good weather.

Stating the obvious maybe, but driving 55-60mph provides a significant increase in fuel economy over driving 75-80mph.
