Real World MPG with 5th Gen?

2019 stock TRD ORP
1300 miles.

100 miles each way, almost on the dot, Denver to Vail.

Denver to Vail: 70-80mph, usually around 80. around 25-30 degrees. a few miles here and there of 4x4 due to some snow on the road. 17.1 MPG average, read around 13.5 most of the drive and went up right at the end for some reason.

Vail to Denver: 60-70 mph, right around 70 for most of the drive. about 40-55 degrees. No 4x4. 26.5 MPG.

Been averaging 17.2 pretty consistently. Daily commute is 14 miles, all surface roads..

2020 TRD PRO, 290 miles, so far showing 19.2 MPG (mostly highway) on the screen.

On one of the drives, mostly highway, it was showing 24 MPG when I arrived. I was expecting a lot worse and so far pretty happy with the MPG, although I am babying it during the break-in period....

I drive a lot of short trips - and everything under 20 miles usually and can rarely get above 16. Short trips with 50/50 freeway - street I get around 15-16
When on freeway for min of 20 miles, I can get 18-19
Definitely a bit worse than I was expecting - but I also didn’t get for it’s gas mileage lol - and added Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Dropped about 1 mpg - on a small sample size.
Still new and still likely breaking in. I drive her very chill - so really not expecting much more. I put premium in (I know - let’s hear why high grade gas is a bad thing and not necessary) - but just like my dog, she gets only the best.

That's what I get with same type of driving. 15.5 with a quick warm-up and some 4x4 action. I use 85

I have always heard that Toyota underreports actual MPG by a few. I’ve run through a few tanks renting an SR5 and always got close to 18.5

about the same. During my work week I drive 1 hr per day of slow moving but not stopped interstate, then about 20-30 minutes of in town errands driving per day. I get 18.4, very consistently. If I do all highway I get about 24 usually. All city, I get about 15. All stock, 2019 TRD ORP, KDSS, 1300 miles, drive like a grandma.

I didn't buy it for MPG either, but still. It's a little ridiculous. My 91 C1500 5.7 with 195k on it got the same MPG. My 98 3rd gen with 240k on it got better MPG. my 91 e350 extended with 460, a 4" lift, 33's, and 4x4 conversion got a little bit worse and had WAY more interior room and clearance. and sounded way cooler.

Well I was getting 18mpg then did a tune up and now get 15mpg if I'm lucky?? New spark plugs, PCV valve, air filter, cleaned the MAF, cleaned the throttle body (off the truck and replaced the gaskets), new transmission filter and fluid swap, new diff, transfer, brake, power steering fluid, serpetine belt. No stuck calipers or anything. Running tires at 34 psi. Think I might try replacing the o2 sensors.

My 17.5 mpg in a nearr-stock TRD OR was so ridiculously low, I just swapped it for a 2019 Accord Hybrid that gets 46mpg real world. Then used the savings in gas (from the first month alone) to get some Danner Mountain Light boots and be content with driving to the trailheads and hiking it in anywhere I want to be outdoors (which ends up getting me to damn near all my favorites, being that they're mostly in national parks where vehicles are not permitted).

Miss the ability to misjudge curbs and just bounce over them, and having to swerve to avoid tumbleweed, but in CA, gas was costing me damn near $500/mo...

A hybrid or electric 6th gen/7th gen can't come soon enough for me.

man 500 a month.. you could lease a vehicle and pay for its fuel for less than 500 a month

2020 TRD premium . To get good gas mileage you need to use the cruise control... because it always drives in eco mode...it even brakes for you..flat freeway it gets 22-26 mpg.. mountain driving it averages 21 .but you have to put in manual shift automatic 5th gear on way down.. otherwise it downshifts to 4th gear and keeps rpms up..harder on your brakes thought..in the city it gets about 14 mpg..so stay light on the throttle..

yeah i used that thing before I bought my 2019 ORP. 4runner ended up being a better deal over 5 years than most of the other cars I was interested in (even a hybrid RAV4, which surprised me). I probably would have been fine with a Prius, especially lately since I'm injured and can't ski anyway. I had a hard time letting go of the ability to go offroading, snow clearance, etc. Paying out the ass for it with the car payments and gas, but whatever. I like the truck.

2500 miles. About 80% highway, The best I’ve been able to do is 17.5, I avg 16.7 here in Pa with all the hills. 35 psi in tires. I’ve tried every way of driving, with cruise control it hates the mountains. The best was heading to south Nj, no hills.

I've got about 1500 miles on my 2019 TRD OR and I've been through several tanks of fuel (93 octane) and I'm averaging 18-19 mpg. A mix of city and highway with a few miles on the interstate on the commute to work. I did average 20 mpg on one tank, but I'm doing the throttle more myself now instead of using the cruise control. Had to hammer down a few times already getting on the interstate, so I'm sure that didn't help, haha. And let me say, in the upper RPM's at full throttle, it really pulls hard for a 4600 lb vehicle with a V6. I was impressed.
