^ I'll point out you can absolutely hypermile a stock 5th gen to 25mpg. I've done it on multiple 200+ mile jaunts.... going 70mph, not accelerating hard, and bleeding speed on uphill stretches. I routinely get 23+mpg on a flat 15 mile drive home across the county when the traffic is light and the signals are nice in the late evenings.
My average on 5,000 miles is 21mpg so far--city, highway, offroading and all. I seldom go above about 73mph in this truck. If I was one of those "lifted on 33's setting the cruise to 88mph" people, it would be much lower.
It's half true that if your finances are tight enough to worry about mpg, they were probably too tight to spend the $$ a 5th gen costs anyway. But there's nothing wrong with people trying to save noticeable money in a situation. We don't tend to deride people that go out of their way to save $7 on gas at Costco, we shouldn't deride people that are curious if their rig can do better on fuel economy itself.
