Rear Defroster/rear wiper not working

for some reason this morning my rear defroster would not come on, so I tried the rear wiper and the spray/washer thing, nothing worked... dunno why, the back hatch will unlock and open as usual. Does anyone have a similar experience?
I havent checked the fuses or anything, its been snowing here all day...any help would be great

do you have your rear window all the way up? wiper/defroster won't work if window isn't up all the way.

oh, also , i did disconnect the battery last night for about 5 minutes. dunno if that would make a difference or not.....
 
thank you all, i just rolled it down and back up and everything works fine now..

When you disconnect the battery, it resets all of the auto up/down window controls. To calibrate them, you must roll them down and back up (you will notice that they will not illuminate at night untill you do this). Because the rear wiper/washer will not work w/ the window down, it shuts off untill it knows the status of your window.

Not the best explanation, but makes sense to me.

Rear wiper and sprayer stopped working...so I did as you suggested...rolled the window all the way down, then back up...works fine :)

Thanks everyone, same thing happened to me, rolled back window down & back up. Rear Defogger & wipers worked like a charm.
 
I just tried this and worked, I was so freaking out. This site is awesome. Thanks Y'all.Now I can tell my hubby I fixed something on my 4 Runner....sorta......lol
 
I had the same issue with the rear wiper...and rolling the tailgate window down/up resolved it. Thanks for confirmation of this "fix". :)
 
Same story here. Same solution. Love it when it's simple. The weird part for me was that we have been getting a TON of rain and there was no rain leakage, so I didn't even think about the possibility of it not being closed all the way.

Whatever. Case closed.
 
Also, be sure to check the "child window safety switch". Couldn't get my rear window to go up or down so I could reset it. Found the child window safety switch was turned off.

Yes, I feel pretty stupid!
 
Bringing a dead thread back to life! But, I want to thank you guys for the info. I had the same problem, spent time checking fuses before searching on here. Sure enough, I disconnected my battery a few days ago. Rolled the rear window down and up and everything works again.
 
Thank you for this information!! I'm thinking it was a fuse or something. This saved me much aggravation and $$$!!
 
Big thank you and Merry Christmas to the OP for this thread. I was thinking my motor all of a sudden died or there was a short somehow. Almost scheduled a visit to the dealer (under extended warranty) but I always check T4R first and sure enough, there was the answer!

Rolled down the window and back up and it's working great!

Rear wiper

Awesome tip - this has happened to me a few times but corrected itself without intervention. I will know what to try in the future.
