175K on original gear oil? What could go wrong! lol just a tad overdue.

I've taken this truck to an indie shop once in it's life(when i couldn't get an appt) The other times it's always gone to the dealer- for everything. I've mentioned this before.. and it's always the same thing... "if it aint broke dont fix it" However the timing has been done twice though.. That's something that i insist on.

Uh yeah, time for a new mechanic. Reality is dealer mechanics are generally lazy and clueless. Basically an over priced Walmart. I honestly won't even allow the dealer to do my free oil changes that came with my 2016. I'd rather do it myself and know it's done right. As for diffs, every 40K is a good rule, same goes for your transfer case. Transmission every 40k-50k Antifreeze every 3-5 years, engine oil IMO every 5K and I run Mobil 1 synthetic with factory Toyota filters.

BTW, where on the island are you? I grew up in Valley Stream, bounced around some, left for good in 2015. Had enough of Cuomo and his BS

Thanks for the schedule... I had the Transfer case done once.. Transmission and Coolant done on a pretty normal basis.. The Diff slipped through the cracks..I'm lucky that i haven't had any major issues..
I have a feeling that if the Runner was used more often i don't my luck would have been so good.
I'm out in Suffolk. Port Jeff to be exact... Dude, i hear you about Cuomo...He's making a run at the Oval office.. I know a lotta people who are going to take their NYS pensions and say Adios.

I pent a few years in Southold, 6.5 years in Middle Island, north of Middle Country 
Port Jeff is a nice area, NY just wasn't for me anymore. MD is a temporary stop in my way down to NC Moved with work so a step at a time. Get out while you can before commie Cuomo kills NY to the point that property values are in the toilet. People have been leaving daily for the last 5-6 years, no stop in sight yet he somehow keeps getting "voted" in

NY isn't for a lotta people these days..
I have a few buddies who left NY for NC.... Cant get them to come back here even for a visit!!.
I dont like to say it but property here is at a premium... I dont understand it..
Tree houses are going for $250k. Currently, the only way to get a place here is to buy a dump(not a fixer upper- i mean a dump) gut it and start fresh, Purchase your parents house and hope they give you a deal, or have a place willed to you. I have a buddy who's parents tossed him $100k and he's still not sure if he can make it.
Southold is getting to be like the south fork.. especially this time of year.

Orig owner here too from NY, diff fluid should have been replaced every 30K.

I lived in Brentwood for 10 years renting. When it was time to buy a home I went to Orange County, NY. LI is too expensive & crowded. I hated it there. Up here you get twice the property for half the cost & half the property tax.

Brentwood is also a dump. Pretty much anywhere is better, especially upstate. That's speaking for today anyway, not sure how long ago you left but either way you made a good choice.

Your dif "cover" is leaking. Probably from rust. Those 2 spots to the left of the fill plug indicate this. Three ways to fix it. JB Weld it until it leaks again (which it will), Get one of those AM replacement covers and cut yours off and weld the new one on, or replace the entire axle housing.

I lived in the "good" section along the Southern State. The further North you went by the LIE it got really bad & to the East CI was bad too. I was there from 96-2006 & the rent was cheap enough that I was able to save for a downpayment on a house. I was 15 min from work in Babylon.. man I miss that short commute.

Yes I have been through it. SUCKS!! Ended up tracking down a used housing, had it sandblasted, coated.

Yup, they use pickle juice out here too. You literally have to treat your 4Runner as if it’s marine equipment.

I wasn't thinking... I took it off the lot brand new in 97 when It was "middle island Toyo" It's changed names .
They use Acid or something here.. it's made for people who dont hold onto their vehicles beyond their lease..My Jet ski is in better shape than my runner.. and it's in salt water all the time... I flush and clean it all the time..Makes me wonder what people who have Proper boats do..
