Rear Diff lock mod?

hi all.
loving loving loving the truck.

i do want to override the rear diff lock though and have it able to engage while in 2wd. My buddy just did it to his wrangler pretty easily, but i dont understand how to do to our trucks.

i searched around the forum and was not finding it. im sure its there and if anyone can kindly lead me to water on this one i would be most grateful.

where is this part located on the 2012 4runner?
i dont fully understand though. so I'm cutting that wire, running it to a ground, INSTEAD of, having it continue to the wire harness?

Nope. That's for a 3rd gen.

Look in the mods sticky for ATRAC or rear diff

Why? If in 4x4 terrain/situations it's a great option, but when in 2x2? I'll be interested to learn more.

I am not sure of the exact reason why you would want to override the rear locker to engage in 2wd mode, but I think some people want to do the override so they can engage it in 4Hi instead of just 4Lo?

Back when I had my Tacoma there was a "grey wire" mod for the rear locker to do that and seemed a popular mod.

Yes, it's the same thing, once you do the bypass you can engage it in any mode I believe. It's just tricking the ecu in to think that we are in 4Lo, so the locker can engage.
