Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit

Sooo did this idea just die off ?

No. If people bothered to read the thread, you'd see he's currently dealing with his military duties and will be available later on.

The one making these kits is my brother.

He’s active duty Navy, and currently doing a deployment work-up; which means he’s back and forth out to sea (currently gone for two weeks, at least).

Give him some time; I’m sure he’ll get back to you guys.

I remember those days on CG-56. In the 6 years I was in, usually we were in port at Norfolk during the crappiest weather. 34 degrees and raining all the time.

I did 8 years as a Corpsman and never stepped foot on a ship.

Spent 5 with the Marines; 2/8 for 4 and 1 with 10th Reg; then 3 in NHCL; now Naval Medical Center Camp LeJeune.

It looks like a quality product. And I’m sure there’s a big market for it. It would be good if there were some orderly way to figure out how to purchase.

edit: The instructions that come with this product are impressive as hell. Attention to detail and nothing left to chance. Excellent work!

I made brackets for my 93 extra cab pick up using the same calipers. Like so many other folks, I never got around to working out a solution to the parking brake cable. Thanks for doing the brain work on that.

If I remember correctly the calipers from the Mustang GT could be used, but the bracket has to be from the cobra Mustang to accommodate the width of the Toyota rotor. I ended up using regular mustang calipers and buying the Cobra brackets from AutoZone. And again I’m relying on memory about something I did almost 10 years ago.

I still have my drawings and patterns for making the brackets. They would need some slight alteration to work with my current Toyota which is a third GEN 4runner, however, it takes a lot of effort to one off a pair of brackets. I think I prefer buying them ready to go his time, along with that slick p-brake setup.

Could this retro fit on to a 95 pickup?

I'm not sure and I don't have a 95 Pickup to test it on.

Will this kit fit a 1st Gen Tacoma

I know that the brackets will fit a non-ABS 1st Gen Tacoma. The brake lines will not fit. The parking brake assembly would take a lot of effort to make it work. For example, on my Tacoma, the center console is removed, a 4Runner parking brake handle is installed next to the driver seat, the cable goes through a hole in the back wall, and the junction bracket is bolted under the bed.

Here's the long overdue update.

I reported to my new assignment in October, and as is fairly obvious from my absence on the forum, I haven't had a lot of time to work on this project. Take the long hours at work/travel, and the fact that I have young children, it just isn't practical for me to get these kits put together and shipped out. So I've come to the decision that I'll sell the inventory I have and that will most likely be the last of these kits. Thank you for all the great feedback and praise and I hope that this run helped the community.

I have a total of 19 parking brake kits remaining. That will be the limiting item for full kit availability. Once those are gone, I do have a few more conversion brackets that I can assemble brake lines for.

I will give priority to the people who have already shown interest. There are more than 19 people on this list, but there are also a lot of people I haven't heard from in a long time. For the following people, please let me know if you're still interested. I'll also reach out to the people who provided contact information.

Life happens, and I for one do appreciate your efforts in putting this together. I was going to wait to get in line, but I think I'd better hop on now before it's too late. If there becomes enough room for a full kit (brackets, lines, and ebrake cable conversion) now then I'm interested. If not then hopefully I can make it on the list for when you have time to make more with the rest of your parts. Thanks again for putting all this together!

Brake Conversion

I'm not sure how to DM you, but I'm still interested in as many as you have available, up to three of them. Ideally two, but I shan't be shelfish.

I’m still interested. I do have a few questions..
Does the emergency brake have as much power as the original set up?

The parking brake does not seem to have as much power as the original set up. I've done everything I can think of (that is also practical) with the junction bracket to increase the mechanical advantage of the cables, but it is still less than the factory design. I know that the original parking brake will lock up the tires while moving and the disc brakes will not. While researching this point I also found forums discussion how the parking brake won't lock up the wheels on the Mustang either.

I see. As much as I want 4 wheel discs, I use the e-brake to keep the rig from rolling back if I stall (5 speed) while wheeling.
Thanks though.

I’m still ready to buy the full kit anytime!

I’m interested in a full kit if any are still available. Also not sure how the DM works. If the e-brake is not available I’ll take just the brackets.
