Rear Hatch Rattling and Banging

I have two problems one is the rattling when going over small or large bumps and while idling. I'm pretty sure its the locking mechanism for the rear hatch just wondering if anyone else had the issue.

Secondly whenever hitting bigger bumps it sounds like the rear hatch is not latching properly. Can this be adjusted? It will close fine but just makes a lot of noise going over bumps.

On a friends 4r, i found the latch to be loose. (attached to the body, not the door). tightened it up and problem solved.

So I found that the rivets that hold the key assembly and the gate window electronics were all loose. Im going to pull out the rivets and get some screws and see if that will hold it for a while.

If anyone else has some good ideas that would be cool too.

Pop of the cover on the strap. unbolt the strap. use something thin to pry off the plastic cover, just like any other door panel. be careful not to scratch too much. I bought specialty plastic trim tools from DIYMA.com (they are going on sale for $15 this friday) but you can use anything really. Start at one corner, go to the other and keep prying, while applying even pressure.for the window area, you're going to have to push the entire assembly UP to pop it out of the track.

On my rear hatch I picked up 4 rubber fender washers and put them behind the plastic/rubber brackets on the frame that catch the hatch. I can get a picture later if my cryptic description didn't help:wink2:

I would like to see that too. My hatch is banging around and I can't figure it out. The latches are tight.

Here is the part I'm talking about, there are 2 bolts per side. Just go to a hardware store and pick up 4(2 per side) rubber washers that fit the bolt and put them between the body and the black piece in the picture. What it does is space out the black piece to make better contact with the mating piece on the door, it worked perfectly for me but...YMMV

I did the same thing that [MENTION=82292]Crashnrondo[/MENTION] recommended and it worked for me as well. Exactly as was said, those rubber mounts must get worn after time and need propping up with some spacers to get the original contact pressure back to hold the gate firmly. Also the license plate frame was banging around so I put a few of those little round self-adhesive furniture pads behind the plate plate to keep it from touching the gate.

What is the black piece in the picture called? I'm trying to find them online to order them. Mine came from the previous owner with both of them missing entirely and the clunking is rather annoying.
