Granted im new to 4runners but this has never happened to me in any other vehicle.
Seems we're making up for missing rain here in NorCal with the past few systems. SETUP: I had ran out to the 4runner early in the morning while it was pouring rain to snag a pair of pliers i left in the rear hatch. Grabbed them pull the hatch closed by the handle and run back inside.
A few hours pass and im sitting on my sofa reading, i get up and saunter to the kitchen for a glass of water and consider using the bathroom, but while looking out my kitchen window PANIC consumes me.. To my horror i discover my car's rear hatch window is rolled all the way down in the worst rain we've had in months!!! Nearly spit out my drink, dropped the glass and tripped over my feet as i dash toward the side door in a hasty effort to save what i think are precious moments of water damage to the runner.
So im in my driveway in spitting rain assessing the damage. Half my storage area is soaked and i had just put a sub and amp back there
the struts wont hold the hatch door up, feels heavier to lift and i think oh snap theres water in the panel! I run to the front of the car, switch ignition to accessory and hit the window up button....NOTHING
Now things are getting interesting. I had just completed a reverse camera, double din HU install and led dash swap successfully but began thinking something might be interfering. I then realized neither the rear wiper worked nor the rear defroster. At this point i hop on the web and the first post matching my symptoms was talking about the motor relay being bad and how its just a $30 part.
Well i keep reading and find out there is a window lockout button (common on many sedans and suvs) I come from an m3 and coupes though so wasnt thinking about it... Anyway it clicks, a few days before i had the front windows tinted and the installer told me not to roll down the windows, but not that i couldnt cause he engaged the lockout!
Window returns up, wiper and defroster come on like nothing was wrong. So 5 minutes of panic evaporate when i realize what happened and how stupid the situation was.
Has anyone else accidentally hit the rearhatch down on the keyfob inadvertantly in inclimate weather? Almost seems like a design flaw to be able to if the car is locked...
