Is this possible. To plumb an self contained oil system for the turbo.
Using the electric pump, pump oil out of a storage tank, through a cooler into the turbo back into the storage tank.
You could use super expensive synthetic oil, it would last a long time because there would be no contamination,Pre pressurize the turbo before spinning and run a timer so it would cool down yet not leave the truck running.
It would also keep potential junk from the engine getting into the turbo bearings.
It would also keep potential lines from being ripped out offroading.
We thought about doing this with clownmeats runner but found that you would either need 2 pumps or you would have to bring the turbo low enough to get the res high enough to gravity feed.
man i keep coming back to this, its awesome! is it safe for the turbo to go through water though?
Why would you need two? Would there not be enough pressure to push the oil up once it passes through the turbo? What if you put the pump just downstream of the turbo, and then put the reservoir on the other side of the pump. So it would act by pulling the oil after it passes through the turbo, then pushing it into the reservoir, and as the reservoir filled it would continue to cycle through?
Sure, as long as the intake and charge pipe are 100% sealed.
People ask me this all the time on my youtube channel, if it was a race car and the turbo was right off the manifold and glowing red I wouldn't spray it with cold water but in this application it's fine. My truck has been through water/snow for over a year and it's fine. My Honda has a turbo hanging out of the front bumper right off the manifold and hasn't cracket or exploded driving through storms and such.
Can you post pics on how it is sealed?
I already went through and added all the same components as yoter on eBay. I have a welder so should be able to weld up a pipe. If not I will just buy one from him.
curious if you or clownmeat ever got any real world MPG number after the turbo install? looking at building a 4runner here in the next 6 months and this is a definite part of my build considering i live in the southern oregon area where we have some of the steeper interstate 5 sections.
I have my wish list built on eBay for this!
How much are you up to now? in terms of moneyyyyy

This is a great thread @Yoterman87.
I'd really be interested in this, my only concern would be the water. There are occasions, living in the PNW, when I have no choice but to drive through a couple feet of water, snow, what have you. For me, aesthetically, a rear snorkel is not an option. My intent with my 4Runner was a nice looking everyday vehicle, that's off road capable. I personally think the rear snorkel kinda kills that.
Do you think there is really any other option to the rear snorkel?
some people were suggesting making box inside the truck above the turbo.
What's your thought on that? Wouldn't it be incredibly loud?
