Rear OME 890 vs Toyota OEM 99 talls?

I am looking to do a 2.5 - 2.75 lift and have decided on the OME 890 springs for the rear but do have a brand new set of the 99 tall 1" lift springs which brings me to a question!

The 890's yield a 2.5-2.75 lift and are 17.13/16.73 inches left and right.....
Now I just measured the 99 talls and they, being a 1" increase over standard coils, are 16.25 inches...

How the hell are the OME coils getting a 1.5 to 1.75 additional inches when they are only 1/2 to 3/4 taller? Are they THAT stiff where they will not compress like the oem springs? (much higher spring rate?)

I really don't want a STIFF ride that is jarring (I would like a flexy, moveable setup)

I bought new 890 springs but think they might give me too much lift with my Icon 2.5 shocks. I might go to the 99 talls. If you decide to go OEM 890 let me know. Maybe we can do a trade since we live close to each other. :)

How much lift did they give you and how old are they? Do they feel stiff or?

They are still in the box as my Icon items are not here yet so don't know that info. They were shipped to my last month so brand new. I'm going to test them out with the install and see if I like the height.
If I think they put me too high I would be interested in the 99 talls.

You don't want the 99 talls in the rear! Mine started sagging when I let the jack down off the axle. There was negative rake compared to the front 99 talls. When I had any weight in the back, they bottomed out like crazy. I have air bags in them now and it finally sits level with no bottoming out. If I were to do it again, I would definitely get the OMEs.

Probably depends on how many miles are on the coils. Brand new 99 talls are going to behave differently that ones with 200k miles on them.

99's are good when paired with 99's all around. Like stated all trucks ride a little different. You dont want to be stuck with negative rake. But since you have them already you can always try.

I've run both. Used 99 talls measured 21" hub to fender and my current 890's measure 23" hub to fender. Both of those measurements are with the rubber cone bump stops which add 1/4" or so.

I don't haul stuff daily, but when I loaded Scuba gear or camping gear in the tune of 200-300 lbs, the 99 talls didn't handle it well. The 890's barely budged, but they also give 1.5-2" more lift than 99 talls. The 99 talls all around sit pretty level and ride great as a daily driver setup, but if you don't want negative rake when loaded up I would suggest going with the 890's.

My 99's are brand spankin' new. The fronts are fine, but the rears are sagging even with nothing in the back and no spare tire! The air bags brought it up so it sits level now.

Yes again Im not saying your wrong. The stock coils sagged stock.

My 890's gave at least 2+ inches of lift, and they--combined with the recommended OME shocks--- are lumber truck-stiff when the car is empty. However, when I put 300 extra pounds of people in the front/middle and 500 pounds of stuff in the back, the ride is nice and controlled-feeling, and the truck sits level with plenty of available suspension travel. Some other shocks(Bilsteins?) might have made it nicer.

Don't mean to hijack the thread or anything just saw quite a few people interested in them

I have 890's. I like them. Spring rate will plate a big role in how long they are unloaded to loaded. After ditching OME rear shocks it made the empty truck drive amazing. I love my 5100's I suggest with the 890's. Never used 99 Tall springs however. But yes they will sag eventually a lot even if new. Either way I suggest the 5100 4Runner shocks in rear. I have the Tundra 5100 and TRD coils and matches great maybe on stiffer side but nothing at all bad. I am picky with it being smooth and not feeling cracks in road. Mine gave me 3" (measured center hub to fender went from 19.5-20" stock to 23" now but mine was very sagged.) Good luck with the build! Even if you just use your 99 Talls get a small spacer to get the height you need.
