Rear shock broke!!! Help Please!

1998 4runner lmt 6 cyliner.

RR shock broke off. What do you guys recommend to replace it with? I went to advance auto and they had monroe shocks $25.99 ea and a $45.99 ones.

Is it safe to drive with it broken? Its not hitting anything except metal.

Same exact thing happened to me. Since I was getting a lift soon anyways... I just removed the shock and drove around on it bumping around for a week while I waited for new suspension parts... I wouldn't drive much on it with the shock broken tho[emoji16]

Yeah it's safe, the same as driving around with blown shocks.

OEM shocks from Toyota for the rears start at $31 and are much better than Monroe's. You will want to replace both.

I spun out during a snow storm, broke a rear shock as well. I have been driving on it since January...it's loud and clunky on some bumps, but other times you'd never notice it's busted.

Can't wait for new susp setup!

thanks guys. I saw another thread, which lead me to Toyota parts website. Shucks were actually cheaper than aftermarket. Do they come with bushings and hardware, what about nuts and bolts?

It'll come with everything that you need. Any decent shock comes will all the parts as the original setup, only the low quality ones will leave you stranded like that.

It's funny that some OEM parts are cheaper than aftermarket. I mean, isn't the point of aftermarket is to be a more value-conscious alternative? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense but sure is great when you do find high quality parts for a great price.
