Rear Spring Recall done, now 4R is sagging in back, WTF?!?!

Hey all, been a minute, but ive got some major updates coming soon, but thats for another thread.

I took my 4Runner in to Concord Toyota in California to have the rear spring recall done. As i understand, the initial problem was a sagging ass end. When i took it in it was sitting level, no sag. I had it in for other service and they discovered by the VIN that is was one of the recalls, but it was never actually done.

Well, long story short, they installed the supposed better rear springs, and now the rear end is sitting about 2 inches lower. WTF??? it looks like crap and its riding different due to the huge slope on it now.

I am calling them first thing tomorrow morning to see what the hell, but im not expecting much help honestly. I doubt they kept the old springs, and i doubt they are gonna fix it for free.

Any insights, advice, info etc is greatly appreciated guys!!! if they are not willing to replace them and fix the problem, i will now be on the search for some better rear springs to even it back out. I'm thinking the progressive rate tundra springs. Any advice on which springs to go with for a quick and proper fix here is also greatly appreciated.

there is a thread stickied at the top of the page called 'about rear sag'. i just posted there too. there is a rear spring recall cause they are prone to sag in back. someone in the other thread said theirs were replaced with springs that were also recalled. ****ty thing is, it was fine beforehand, and now its sagging badly in back, literally 2 inches!!! im worried the dealer is gonna tell me that they are the right art regardless of the sag, and that even if they have the old springs they cant put them back on. when they did the recall i asked about buying the pro-rate tundra springs, but they said they would nor install those since they are not for my truck. :rollseyes:

i was working so my girl took it in and picked it up that day. my driveway is a steep incline pointing up, so its natural for my cars to look lower in back when they are parked at my house. i thought my mind was playing tricks on me for a couple days, but i finally drove it to level ground and actually measured the distance from the tire to the flare and its just under 2 inches on the passenger side, just over two inches lower on the driver side. need to check the tires today for the slight variance maybe, but its def not right. im wondering if someone put something like the highlander springs on at some point so maybe the rear springs were not actually the recalls since they were not sagging at all. if they still have the springs by some miracle im gonna have them make sure they are the same part number as the recall. if they wont put them back on ill take them and pay someone else too. thats if they still have them. :/

Are you sure the truck wasn't already lifted?

like i say, might have had the highlendewr springs, but if there was a suspension lift or something going on back there i assume they would have informed me and likely not have done the recall due to it being modded. since i only recently bought the car im not 100% on anything that i havent done myself. :/

The Tundra spring upgrade you're referring to is actually to lift the front. AFAIK, there isn't a Tundra spring that fits in the rear, but LC coils are a popular upgrade and I believe the front springs of a 4th gen T4R will lift the rear too (or so I've heard).

I had the recall done for the rear sag, but on my truck they replaced the bumpstops on the frame and added a bumpstop in the rear spring since mine didn't have one. I think '97-'98 models get the new springs, but my '96 got the shaft :dammit:

and if yours was sitting like mine right now you would really be feeling shafted! it looks terrible, rides worse, seems to have dropped it a bit in mpg, and i took it trhough a mud puddle ive done several times the other day and the tow hitch got submerged, which is when i knew for certain my mind wasnt playing tricks on me.

I'm thinking some new springs from rockauto? Some '99 springs for a 4wd should be 2" taller from what I've read and maybe that will get me level.

Keep in mind, the recall was about rollovers not sagging.

no, its a 4wd. i thought sagging was part of the issue. but either way, the fact is it was fine before and now it looks, rides, and performs off road worse than before, dont see how this could be beneficial in any way. im just gonna be really pset if i have to shell out hundreds for new springs and labor somewhere else when there was initally nothing actually wrong in the first place. :gun5:

Mine had the recall many years ago as a 4wd, by the time I bought the truck it was sagging. BTW not all 99 4wd springs are tall, I don't think there is a way to figure out on rock auto which of their springs are the tall ones if they even sell them...
