Rear Vent Visors problems/questions?

Clean rubber channel with rubbing alcohol on a rag before installing.

Ok picked up some 3m tape as small width I could. The next quisten is weather to use it on one side or the other and or both? As we all no there is limted space when installing in channels. My thoughts are to remove the old existing ones and clean off all glue and use the new 3m on one side and install roll up windows and let the tape hold them without rolling down the windows so a few days.

^^^^What he said above. Clean the visor also before you put the tape on it.

One application should do. Is the tape you got a foam tape? Or is it almost transparent when you peel the cover off? Mine had a 1/4" wide strip of the transparent tape on them. Any kind of foam tape is probably going to be too thick to allow the window to close against the finger guard.

This is what you probably need. But where you can get it in just one roll I have no idea beside the recommendation I made earlier.

Ok here is what I found let me know if you think this will work. I am just not sure if still to thick but its the smallest i could find at NAPA. Its 1/2" x 5".

I have the same issue with one of my rear Weathertechs. The tape you show has a foam core & is probably too thick & may cause the window to reverse when closing. The thin stuff should work though. I believe that's what the factory uses, but I'm going to contact Weathertech on Monday. Maybe they can send me se few feet of the stuff.

^^^This. It might be thin enough or it might not. If it is too thick then you are looking at trying to clean it off for another attempt. I would call Weathertech.

OP, once you have the correct double stick tape, 3M also offers another product that should alleviate your problem.....3M Adhesion Promoter, generally available at NAPA.

An adhesion promoter or primer is most commonly a resin system in a solvent-based carrier and is used to alter the surface characteristics of a substrate prior to tape application. This surface alteration enhances, or in some instances creates a modified surface for bonding with a particular pressure sensitive adhesive. Adhesion promoters are most often used to raise the substrate surface energy of low surface energy plastics such as TPO, PP, PPO, PC, ABS and other plastic blends/alloys, allowing for increased short and long-term adhesion levels of 3M acrylic foam tape adhesives.

As others have pointed out, prepping area before affixing vent shade is key.

Please let me know what they say. I will also try to contact EDR and see what they have to say about the vent visors and what they recommend using to correct the problem.

Update: Sorry it took me so long to post back. After recent storms that came through our area in Oct. 2014, I had to get some body work done during that time I had them remove my old EDR Visors and Install new rear ones. The same problem has happened and I don't know why or if its just this type of visors. I watch them install them after prepping the area and they went up as far as possiable but still sagged down over time which looks just like the other ones.


My question has anyone had this problems with in channels vent visors before any brand? I just don't get why they want go up into the channel of the factor weather stripping in the rear as well as they did on the fronts. Any ideas, tips or comments are welcomed. My wife does not want the 3m ones she only wants the in channel.

My front ones (Weathertech) are only staying in place because of the bowed design. They are holding themselves up there with spring tension. When I open my from windows more than a couple inches they start to rattle at certain speeds. The back window ones will NOT stay put anymore because the tape won't hold, and since the rear window channels are parallel to each other they just want to slide down in the side channels when the windows are open. If I have rear seat passengers who want the windows down I take them out and throw them in the back and just replace them later. I will eventually switch to 3M visors. I really prefer the look of the in channels, but until someone comes up with an adhesive that will hold over time I think this problem will continue.

Have not had the problem with the front ones just with the rear ones. They just want stay pushed up into the channel? Your thoughts on the glue/adhesive is spot on as it doesn't seem to be holding.

After talking to EGR and they sent me some tape to try to get them to stay. I have not had a chance to do it yet but wanted to post update.

Well after talking to EGR, they sent me yet another set of rear visors. So my question now is what is the best way to clean the channel once the old ones come off? I am worried that if i keep missing with the weather stripping/channel in the window I will damage it?

My plan when I get a chance is to take the old ones off carefully and take rubbing achool with a cue tip and clean the channel good. Is this the best way to prepare the area for the new visors. I will
Only get one shoot at this.
