Rear view camera dims when headlights are on?

I have searched and can't find any information on this. When my headlights are on and the truck is in reverse the back up camera dims making it hard to see. Is this normal? And is there a work around? Really annoying and seems counterproductive. Thanks in advance for any help

I know this has been discussed here before, just can't remember where it was.
This is normal, but not counterproductive. Normally, lights are on at dark, so it would be normal to have the backup camera and other displays dimmed during this time.
One can make the dash lights brighter which will include the camera display by scrolling the illumination knob all the way up until it clicks.
This will basically turn all dash lights, camera and map display to "daytime mode".

I don't think they'll ever be as bright as daytime use, at least not on mine because it has the lux sensor that knows when it's actually dark out.

BUT as you stated this is a safety feature, as dimming the display makes sense when lights are on, because it implies it's dark out.

I agree with you both that in a way it makes sense and I get the safety aspect. However, on the other hand it makes it hard to see, especially off road. I will try adjusting the interior lights up and see what happens but this is inconvenient to do and just turning off the headlights seems to turn the dimming off. (When the headlights are on during the day the camera still dims) I was considering brighter or additional back up lights and it seemed it would just make sense to not have the camera dim. I also tried turning off the auto dimming function on the rear view mirror hoping that would help but to no avail.

I wasn't aware of a lux sensor as my SR5P definitely doesn't have one, but your staments on that makes sense for your application.
I have tested mine and it is at the same intensity as daytime while dark and the knob scrolled up.

Your handle conjures up visions in my mind when lawndarts were introduce when I was a kid. Kids tossing them straight up and running so the top of their head wouldn't become "the target". :fear:

Does your 13 TE have auto headlights?

If not is is just as easy to scroll that knob up as it is to turn off your headlights.

I run with my parking lights on during the day, have my DRL disabled (because I dislike them and they burn the high beam bulb prematurely)...
so during the day, I have the illumination knob scrolled all the way up until it clicks.
Not that inconvenient. YMMV

No auto headlights for me. I use my DRLs during the day, (mine are a separate LED so no residual burn out issues, and on the 13 the DRL and turn signal are combined but the running lights are in the headlight housing.)

Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill but I found it irritating.

Great! Thanks! Although the setting is somewhat different than indicated. In the Entune settings you can turn daytime mode on, which then does not dim the rear view camera when the headlights turn on. If you adjust the brightness it does make it brighter but still dims when the headlights are turned on. I will have to test during the night if it leaves the whole of the Entune display bright with the headlights on and if that is tolerable while driving at night, It was too difficult to tell right now. And informatively the dimmer for the interior lights does not affect the Entune screen.

Are you turning the knob all the way up until it clicks or are you stopping before you feel it click?

If you do that, after you have adjusted the settings within the headunit to your liking, it will turn your screen on to max brightness with your headlights on.

Just trying to clarify, making sure I am describing correctly.

I have done this, and it doesn't seem to have that affect? With the dimmer all the way till it clicks the camera still dims? I will have to check it again. Maybe I didn't have it all the way clicked when I checked

Edit: Yes you are right that's exactly how it works, Sorry I had not worked through all the options thoroughly enough
