Rear Window and Wiper stopped working

Only the rear wiper won't work

I have a rear wiper that will not work. The rear window goes up and down just fine, the rear defroster works, and the rear washer fluid works. Only the rear wiper does not work. I've tried many different solutions other users have posted but none have worked. Wondering if anyone could provide insight. Thank you in advance!

If that isnt it... do you have access to a code reader? If not, I would suggest seeing if you can get a reliable mechanic / dealer to see if there are any codes triggering ... Long story short, I have had issues with my rear window up/down for years and finally got a tip about checking codes; found an error code triggering and figured out the issue much quicker than I ever could have by tearing apart the back end.

You'll just have to hunt through the thread to find the active link as I think the original one is dead.

It occurred to me that there may be something else going on since my hazard light switch wasn't working.

Pulled my dash apart to realize the professional I paid to install my new double DIN headunit and backup camera did not, in fact, connect the 4WD, rear window power, and hazard light switches when reassembling the dash.:twitch:

On a side note, this endeavor has given me a touch more confidence in my technical abilities. I am fully capable of connecting and disconnecting plastic pieces.

Yeah, this forum (and to some extent the internet in general) is a great resource for DIY maintenance and troubleshooting.

So I know all the old timers are probably sick to death of this subject buy I may have a new twist on it. I searched and tried the usual suspects, window lock button, resetting windows, holding down up and down buttons for 15 seconds, rear wiper is sitting in it's cradle.

If I disconnect the battery or the control modules in the rear hatch, the rear window will roll up and down properly for a couple of days. Then it quits working again. Rear wiper isn't working either but I haven't been paying attention to see if it works again after the "reboot". Rear washer and latch motor work correctly all the time.

It seems as if a "reboot" briefly cures the problem and then in comes back.

Any similar experiences or recommendations on repairs?

I had this exact same problem. I planned on taking a look at it, but kept pushing it off since its not a feature I use often. About a month later, I tried them and they worked like nothing had ever happened. They haven't malfunctioned since.

Very Weird.

Make sure the window is all the way up...can be open just a crack without seeing it and will make the wiper inoperable.

DUDE!! 14 years later, you are still helping people with this post, before I went all fuse crazy on my 6 month old 4Runner, I saw your make sure the window is up all the way. Well, I stopped right there and then and went out to the garage and sure enough, I somehow didn't get it all the way up and once up, everything worked just fine. Thanks!!

Make sure the window is all the way up...can be open just a crack without seeing it and will make the wiper inoperable.

That was the cause with mine.
