Rear window lock

A friend of mine just bought a 2008 4Runner SR5. She just gave me a call to see if I ever had any problems with the back window on mine. I told her no and asked why. She said that her's was stuck in the down position and asked if I know how to fix her problem. I asked if the door was closed all the way, she said yes and that the door was lock. Next I asked her if she had the windows locked. She then remember that she had locked them to keep her niece from messing with them. Thats what it was.

Long story short, I don't think I have ever had that happen on my 2004 or the 1994 I used to have. Does this happen on all models?

This is true for 2006... I would think that it would date back to the beginning of the 4th gen in 2003.

The window lock switch on the driver's door disables the rear window control switch on the dash. Even if the windows are locked, you can still operate the window with the key in the rear lock, and you can open it using the wireless remote.

She was saying that she locked the doors with the remote. Then rolled the window down with the remote. Then she could not roll them up with the key. That just sounds wrong. I can understand the dash switch but she said it was with the key she could not roll it back up, unless I was miss understanding.

You can open the window with the remote, but you can't close it with the remote. Sort of defeats the purpose, IMO.

I have an '07 and the same thing happened to me. I thought it was broken when the window wouldn't go up. Then I hit the window lock button to unlock and I was able to get it to go back up. I was kind of worried there for a few seconds.

Since you are on the subject of window locks I thought I'd share my story. I laugh now, but at the time I seriously wanted to crawl under a large boulder.
In my 02 Accord one day and the passenger window rolled up a bit slow- figured I would take a look at it later. Forgot about it. The next time I tried to roll my windows down the passenger side didn't budge. So I checked all the basics- fuses, switches, etc. Everything seemed fine. It was fall and starting to get cold so I didn't really mess with it.
The next spring when it started to warm up I took interest in the issue again and started to look into things again. Tried another motor, yadda yadda yadda......
Finally, after like 8 months I finally went to the dealer and asked the guy if he had any ideas. He walked out to my car and flipped the little switch on the drivers door, you know, the window lock. Ha. Needless to say I felt damn stupid about then.
Pretty sad considering that I am constantly instructing nurses on the "basics."
