Rear Window Problem in -2 weather !

The left rear window in my Wife's 4Runner is un responsive. It seems to go down by it's self.. when I try to move it up or down with the button nothing happens. When I put a hand on each side to move it , it seems to have little resistance... I have moved it up, and attemped to use some duck tape to prevent it from moving... other idea's?

The timing is bad, as my wife works tonight, ( sunday ) and the temp out right now is -2, this is where it get's parked.

Have you tried all of the window switches? Ie the master on the drivers door and the local switch to see they both work.

When you use the switch can you hear the window motor running?

Hopefully it is as simple as the glass coming out of the power window tray it sits in.

I'll try it here in a bit when I go to the store , but is the window master switch (on the driver door) pushed in?

I believe that stops all windows from moving for child safety reasons. Not sure if it overwrites the driver controls or the outside controls for the rear glass.

Edit: confirmed. The window overwrite button disables both center console and outside controls for the rear glass.

Zero sound, and it feels almost loose to the touch .

Other windows work fine.

How loose? Mine are a little loose, ie they have play maybe 1/2" or so. I think that has to do with the get-your-head-stuck-in-the-power-window safety feature that stops the window from doing the strangle hold.

It is troublesome not to hear the motor run. I am pretty sure all of the windows are on the same fuse.

Do you have a warm place to park it? (To see if it works when warm)

I do not know what your technical skills are (and I am not real familiar with inner workings of a 5th gen, just got mine, my last was a 3rd gen so there are definitely some differences but the process is basically the same) but the next step I would take would be pulling the interior door panel off so you can visually inspect that wires aren't unplugged, pinched, or cut. Confirm the window is still in the track and that the scissor lift isn't bound up with a foreign object or itself. Next I would determine if the motor plug was getting power with a multi-meter (you will have to activate the window switch to see). If it gets no power then your problem would be at or between one of the switches. If it does get power you will need to check the motor.

If it is a problem with the safety switch, sorry I have no idea I haven't had to troubleshoot my new truck so I am not real familiar with itm, for all I know it could be part of the motor. I/You would need to check the shop manual to see the troubleshoot tree.

More loose than it should be, I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, and leaving it for the day. It's a lease, so they better fix it!
