Rear Window Switch for Cargo Area?

I tried searching before posting this but I was not able to find anything regarding this.

I have seen the mod to allow you to open the rear hatch with a momentary switch from the inside. I was wondering though if there is a way to install an additional switch to open and close the rear window in the cargo area? This would be nice if you could do it while the key is not in the ignition as well, for camping purposes.

I just thought this would be kinda cool to do with the switch that opens the door from the inside as well.

Thanks all.

Do you mean like installing a switch on the door itself?

Because I thought someone did do that. It shouldn't be too hard all you're doing is just tapping the existing wires for the signal input to the rear door module, you could wire your dash mounted switch to an always hot fused circuit or just wire the second switch in the back to an always hot fused circuit and have no issues.

Hey BlackWorks, yes I would like to mount the window switch somewhere in the cargo area, it doesn't have to be on the door or could be. That would be a nice little mod to do. I appreciate the feedback.

I installed one on my 3rd gen. I tapped into the up down wires on the hatch key. As with the key, push and hold the switch for a second and then the window moves. It's awesome for camping.

i did the interior hatch button mod on my truck and think this would be a cool addition if there was an oem window switch we could use that would look right.

i sure its something J.A. could figure out. my main thing is finding the right switch to use

Kevinpt, couldn't we source another button like the OEM one and put that in the back? That would be pretty cool to have that OEM button in the front and back cargo area.

Don't the key fobs roll down the rear window?

Yes, but they don't can't roll it back up. Plus, when I'm camping in the back, the keys are usually tossed up front somewhere.
I NEED to do this mod! There's been times where I just need a little air in the middle of the night, and the ability to crack the rear window would be amazing.

if wired to the hatch key switch it should be able to lock, unlock, roll up, and roll down the windows. hopefully someone figures out how to do it

The manuals are stickied on the main page. Just look up the electrical schematic for the wire colors you need... no different than wiring any other switch at that point once you know the colors.

have you tried to find something in that before? its tons of different files. yes its there but finding pages is hard

Yes I have. It just takes a little time... I'll look at it tomorrow when I get my laptop back in front of me and point you in the right direction.

Based on the schematics this doesn't seem to difficult to do. Also reading through this I learned that the key in the driver's door lock is suppose to roll all windows up and down. Never knew this, so will be trying it out tomorrow. See pic for the wires you need to tap at the back door. Good luck.

i think the driver side key for all windows works on limited models.
i did tap the tailgate key for the signal for the windows with my alarm. it just need a ground signal for it to roll up or down, also this will lock and unlock. might not be good if you have an aftermarket alarm, usually u forget if the truck is disarm.

i thought that the rolling down of windows with the key is for 5th gens only?
