Rear wiper doesn't intermittent...

Hey guys when I bought my 1997 4runner sr5 I am sure my rear wiper functioned in every setting; off, intermittent, and continuous. For some reason now the intermittent stopped working. The continuous works great, the window goes up and down, the fluid sprays. but when I turn the switch to intermittent is goes continuous. Could this be the relay? if so where is it located?

Thanks

My old '84 runner had intermittent fronts, but not intermittent rear. Doesn't make sense to have that functionality. Yours likely never did.

Just guessing here though, since my current rig is a Tacoma

I don't have a '97 EWD. On the '98, which should be similar, there is a power window relay located inside the liftgate, on the left side, that controls the rear wiper, too. As always with liftgate electrical weirdness, it behooves you to examine the harness between liftgate and body for broken wires or missing insulation. I'd say half the time, that's where the problem lies.

Any updates on this issue? Intermittent stopped working on my 97 last month and after replacing the switch on the steering column I still have no rear intermittent wiper. On works fine, just need the delay.

Mine has always been weird as well.

If I turn it straight to intermittant it goes continuous. However, if I turn it to continuous and then back to intermittant it works as it should.

May be worth a try.

My '01 has intermittent intermittent mode. Sometimes it works the first try, sometimes the wiper doesn't even move and I have to flip it to On before going back to intermittent. Not a huge deal for me.

My '00 is similar. If I move the switch to continuous, then back to intermittent it will be intermittent... Seems to work for me that way. But will not work if I go straight to intermittent mode.

My intermittent doesn't work at all. Full speed works fine. Just kinda frustrating!

Normally I just turn the rear wiper on and then off. After owning it for all these years I couldn't tell you whether or not I had intermittent wipers...Never something I needed on the rear window. Sooo 'I finally tried my rear wiper out.

Mine works the same way. To get intermittent, I have to turn full on first and back down to intermittent mode. If I turn to intermittent first, it goes continuous. Interesting...
