Rear wiper/washer suddenly not working

Wow!!! one of my kids had accidentally pressed the rear window button down just enough to where the window barely unseated but enough for the wiper not to work. Spent 2 hours looking for a fuse or anything that would have caused this. Never thought to check window....

Gosh I will never get that time back now. Felt beat down by my car :dammit:

I thought this happened to me because I pushed the button to roll the window up, and I still didn't have access to the wiper and rear defrost.
It turned out that the window lock (that I never use) by the window buttons on the driver's door was engaged. So the rear window didn't actually go up at all.
Once I unlocked it, rolled the rear window down a bit and then back up, everything was back to normal

Is it possible that your window lockout switch is engaged, and the rear window is actually down a tiny bit?

nb rob, Thank you for your reply. After discussing this thread we took a fifth look at the window and ended up taking some gunk out of the upper sill. All works as normal now. Must’ve rolled the muck up in there with the window. :doh::doh:

Haha! This is how I found this forum. I thought my rear wiper was broken as well. I was literally on my way to the dealership to sort things out since I only had the vehicle a week. I decided to check the interwebs for an answer and I am glad I did. My Google Search took me to this particular thread. I definitely avoided some embarrassment at the dealership.

Ya’ll just saved me a call to the dealer. I didn’t even give the rear window a thought. Sure enough, that’s what it was.

People thank GOD for internet and this blog.......The dealer called during a routine oil change to mention that the above was not working, and asked if I wanted to run a diagnostic on it (50 bucks?).... I was incredulous because our car is new and it was just working the last time I tried it. I was steaming until it dawned on me that I should check to see if someone else had experienced the same thing.... LOW AND BEHOLD....I said NO.....proceeded to pick up my car. Once there I quietly open and closed the back window and turned on the wiper. You guys guess....did it work? YES IT DID..... so DID NOT need the DIAGNOSTIC....and now I question what the dealers are trying to pull. THANKS GUYS....

Thank you! I just had this problem with my rear wiper not working, and while searching the web to find which fuse serves that wiper, I found this thread. I checked, and my rear window was down just a fraction of an inch. Rolling it up allowed the wiper to work again. You saved me much time!

One other note to those who may have the same problem, I noticed my rear window defroster would also not turn on when the window was slightly down, so that may be another clue that this is the problem as they are likely connected to the same interlock.

This can also happen when you replace a battery or have one go dead on you. All windows with the auto function need to be reset. The rear wipers and defrosters also stop working until you do this reset.

Edit: I didn't realize that I was posting in 5th Gen. I have an '06 t4r. Part # is probably different.

I had this problem and was happily surprised to realize that the lift gate window wasn't shut entirely, but my happiness faded when I then noticed that it didn't go back up evenly, so I need a new regulator. Don't let people close the hatch without instructions - they will invariably slam it shut. (I always try not to sound like a pretentious douche when I say it.) I knew the gentle securing of the automatic close/lock feature with the hatch was put there for a reason and I finally understand why, I think.

OEM regulator for the window is Toyota part # 69807-35020. Retail is around $120, w/o motor.

Rear window not working

I drive with the rear window half down all the time as my German Shepard loves it. Mine is a 2016 Premium Trail and for the first time today my window did not work!It has been very wet where I live these past few days and I thought "damp" in the system or a fuse so when I returned home I checked in with "the Forum".The very first thing mentioned is "make sure window is fully up". Boy do I feel stupid!!!
All fixed now.........
