Recall notice for 2004 V6 Crankshaft seal

Well, I've had the notice for, what, 2 weeks or so now. I'm in no hurry. It's not leaking oil, as I keep an eye out for stuff like that on all my vehicles. I'll have it done with my 3,000 mile oil change. (You said 5,000 mile service, I believe the first is at 3,000) I plan to switch to synthetic at 10,000 fwiw, have a few more dino oil changes to go through first.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. linhsy and I are in the same state, so maybe I'll get it soon if I get it at all.

Actually, I haven't paid much attention to see if my oil is leak or not? I will do it from now on.
for the first oil change or oil change interval, it doesn't matter much for me between 3000 or 5000 miles as long as you feel comfortable with it. I will switch to synthetic Mobile 1 on my first oil change...and still keep it 5000 miles interval.
Back to the subject, will you replace the crankshalf pulley and oil seal eventhough you haven't found any edvidences that your 4Runner is leak?... 80% of me says yes, 20% will see. my 4Runner is 2000 miles now....maybe 2500 miles more to go. what is your opinion?

Right around 2200 miles here. I'll get mine replaced as a precaution. It isn't major work, pretty straightforward. I wouldn't mind looking at it closer one of these days to see exactly how far into the block they have to go to accomplish this. Sounds like a clearence issue, so maybe I'll break out my calipers and start measuring too.

I called my service department and they said that not all 04 Runners with the V6 have been affected. They actually have a list of VIN's that have been affected and only those are being contacted for the service. The service manager checked my VIN against the list and mine did not fall within that range.

Ok, down to buiness. Anyone remember the recall on the 1991-1993 head gaskets on camry's and 4Runners. My 1991 4Runner blew the head gasket the day i hit 60k miles. Toyota had sent out a recall notice, and said at or around 60k if there was a problem to contact them. They replaced my block, fixed it all up and paid for my rental car for 2 months while i was waiting. Toyota came through and did me right. My 4Runner never broke down on me once except that time. It still running stron and i love it. Am going to hate selling here, but i must.
So this crank shaft thing is nothing, don't make more out of it then it really is. So someone screwed up and now there are some bad cranks out there, they are fixing it and in less then 2 hours. Your back on the road and all is as it was before. In my eyes this has absolutely no relfection on Toyota or how much i love Toyota.
