Linhys - I don't have any accesories really. I have the fake CF license plate covers, a CF TRD emblem inside and the Toyota all weather mats. oh yeah, got 2 T4R stickers on my whip.

. I put in a request for info to Toyota.com (owners site) with my VIN# to see if it is an affected vehicle. I bought mine at DCH Wappingers Falls Toyota, maybe I'll take a ride over there to check also.Thanks,

Just got this notice
Got a letter concerning the crankshaft pulley and potential oil seal failure. Up here in CAN they are calling it a Customer Satisfaction Campaign #SABB-406-1A dated May 2004 (with similar details that are previously discussed on this thread.) The only difference is they are applying it specifically to V6 Limited and SR5 models, not SE. Is there any difference we know of with the V6 they put in the SE?
It has shown up on the NHTSA site as Item #10007089. Toyota Service Bulletin #04008 dated April 26, 2004. My build date is 02/04 so it looks like it is potentially for 3 months worth of recent V6 builds.

Just got my answer back from Toyota.com and received my recall notice in the mail, both today. How's that for service!

And it is for a crankshaft PULLEY and OIL SEAL not and I repeat not a crankshaft. It's a simple repair and apparently Toyota found out about it before anyone on this forum.
It's also a considered a service campaign and not a recall. There is a difference. A recall would be for something that directly affects the safety of the vehicle and a small oil leak is not likely to cause a safety issue. That is unless you are so stupid that you let your brand new vehicle leak three or four quarts of oil all over the place without bringing it to the dealer to find out why. And then letting the engine become damaged from a low oil condition, possibly seizing and causing loss of vehicle power and possibly control. Then you have a safety issue, but if that should happen I couldn't see how anybody that stupid could get a license to drive.
Owner's do have some responsibility and checking the oil level is one of them.
Thanks for looking out for my satisfaction of ownership Toyota. I'll be back to buy Toyota's again.

Something like a crankshaft pulley could be made at any time prior to the final assemby of the vehicle. The question is when were the pulleys manufactured and in which plant?biglatka said:
Obviously Toyota knows this information as parts are manufactured in certain plants at certain times for specific purposes.
Leave it to Toyota to notify the owner by warranty registration and VIN. If you're affected you'll know. If your not sure just have your VIN handy and call your dealer.

My Runner was built in 3/04 and haven't received a letter yet.

BigDogMoney and Lee1 - Maybe you guys are outside the fringes of the recall. The way I found out was to send an email giving my build date and VIN# to Toyota. The funny was that on the same day they answered my email (only 1 day later) I received the recall in the mail.

Go to the FAQ section and you’ll be able to send them an email to research whether or not your 4Runner is one of those affected. Let us know what you found out so we can get a handle on the build dates affected and post it here. Hope this helps.
