Embarked on a 2 week trip to go hiking in the Sangre de Cristo mountains in NM, I wasn't a driver, but there was a total 13 people. 2 cars, a Sequoia and a Windstar, which was replaced by a Kia Optima (read below).
Saw many, many stupid things on the highway, to and from Chicago and cimarron, NM. 2 RV's, both towing 2 SUV's, one Jeep Commander, and one brand new Chevy Tahoe, both 4WD, both with all 4 wheels on the ground. Saw a ram 3500 dually smoking and leaking something, not know to the tard driving it. A Suburban towing a large TT without sway and/or weight distribution system, his front end could be lifted off the ground. An S10 towing a small 4x6 U-Haul trailer, with what looks like a substantial amount of weight in the bed, and in the front of the trailer axle, he had his flashers on but the trailer lights didn't work. Troopers being stupid. One semi-trailer blowout. Two people that blocked traffic, going the speed limit, while everybody needed to go faster. A deer hit a van at 70, which was part of our convoy, it was totaled and led to a 3 hour delay to get a rental car with unlimited mileage, since we were still in Illinois and needed to go at least another 3k before returning it. A tow truck towing a mailman, and being all over the road. 3 extremely large TT. All this was seen in a fully loaded (with cargo and people, not options) Sequoia, with a 5x8 enclosed U-haul trailer, which was recently rebuilt, so it was smooth as glass, with 600#s of gear and the trailer itself, which was 1,400 total, at 80 MPH it pulled like it wasn't even there. And the rental car, a Kia Optima wasn't that bad actually.
Hiking was fun, and exhausting, carrying 40# packs and the only way of transportation being by foot is a little weird these days, let me tell you how weird it is to drive after nearly two weeks of hiking 60 miles in the mountains. Anybody who is an outdoor person, I recommend a summer job at Philmont, pay is well, and you don't ever get bored, it's a good way to save money, because all that money you earn, you have nothing to spend it on while there. They need 1000 employee's for next summer, so check it out.
Yea this post was scrambled around alot, but I was just posting about my little trip. Did anyone ever notice how quiet and smooth the sequoia is compared to the 4Runner?
