Recommendation for iphone mount

I mounted ram's quick grip to the center dash. Doubles as my GMRS mic holder [emoji23]. I love this mount. Easy one handed to mount the phone and take off. Holds secure for trails.

A few questions for you sir!

Do you have the +/- 15* "slop" with the cradle some of the Amazon reviews talk about? Does the phone ever slip down in the grip? Will it work in landscape orientation with those exact components (mainly the arm length)? And do you think an iPhone 7+ with a "wallet style" foldable case will still fit in the cradle?

I currently run this one from Mediabridge and it does the trick - but I seem to go through them often (have a wallet case on my phone, and I need to clamp it in pretty good, and eventually break the cradle arms)...

I have a slim case, but a wallet case or honestly anything that fits in between the arms would get hung onto just fine. Highly recommend. Its silly but this mount is one of my favorite things I've done. I'm not sure what the 15 degree slop is? The mount itself rotates a bit on the ball in the back, but its designed to work that way. It got enough resistance on the rotation that it doesn't rotate at all when driving - maybe it might on a huge hit or ?. Does that answer your question?

I can see what the Amazon reviewers were talking about with the 15 degree "slop" in the spring-tensioned "X-Cradle". Basically, the spring-loaded "x clamp" is allowed to pivot between what's left of it's maximum opening capacity and what the phone's width is actually using (pivot to 15 degrees each side of "perfectly vertical" {portrait} or "perfectly horizontal" {landscape} ) - but hoping it won't be an issue for me. Unless the spring loaded "x" is fully open or fully closed, whatever variance is left beyond the cradle's max width capacity and the phone's width will be available as "slop" in the pivoting of the spring-loaded "X" clamp.

RAM could resolve this by linking both sides of the "x clamp" with a gear or other mechanical way of rigidly tying the "x" to the ball-mount with interlinked gears/mesh or whatever. Easily addressable by RAM IMNSHO - and would be a welcomed addition seeing how the 1" ball-joint is endlessly adjustable for exact placement needs for the OCD among us...

Fingers crossed I will like it a lot better than my current MediaBridge cup-holder mount. I'm extremely optimistic based off your results and my initial impressions

Mob armor switch in SDHQ tan. No vibration issues and has never dropped my phone and I can swap it over to the bar mount on my ktm.
I needed something to hold my phone when offroad since I use motion pro for gps and trip logging. And my iPhone 7+ doesn't fit in the cup holder with the life proof case.

I bought this suction cup mounted one for $35 from Best Buy because it was the only one they had. I used it for my 6 Plus in a LifeProof case for a long trip a couple weeks ago. No complaints so far, but I have only used it on the road. I don't know how it will hold up for off-roading, but it seems sturdy enough.

Medic at work that relives me two shifts a set has one just like that leaves in ambulance when he's working and in between days I work that thing is a beast and sticks to any surface on dash or console smooth hard plastic to the dimpled dash. Now I'm not saying I've jumped the railroad tracks doing 90mph like the dukes boys in a county squad but if I had I could attest to the fact that my Lifeproofed iPhone 6 Plus never moved when landed on other side[emoji13]

I particularly like the ram mount up by the steering wheel. For me, drilling a hole in the interior piece is just not in the cards.

I also don't want to drill so I'm going to use 30lb double side tape and RAM-B-238 for the base. I should get my RAM Mount today ray2:

Went the no drill route for now myself works great stuck the metal disk on back of lifeproof cubs sticker just so wasn't so shiny.

The 30lb double side tape is working so far. I had my doubts but, it feels really solid.

I went with the RAM mount in this location because I got tired of cheap mounts breaking all the time. Suction cups mounts block the view. I can still use my vents and see the clock. Most importantly is not looking down and taking attention away from the road.

Only thing I noticed so far is that you have to be deliberate in where you place the X-grip on you phone to avoid buttons.

The pannel isn't flat, curves slightly so the base mount isn't flush. The tape is thick and doesn't appear to be compromised. If it does start to lift I will probably try adding a double layer of tape to one side to level it out.

Got this magnetic mount on Amazon. The base is held by double sided tape. Had it on for 8 months and it's been great. I don't like the AC vent mounts, here in S TX you need all the AC we can get.

I will be getting an air-vent mounted one soon - and my reasoning is that the AC blowing on the phone keeps it from overheating.

With my phone brightness on 100%, charging via cable, and also GPS on - the phone gets REALLY hot, killing battery longevity. With the air vent blowing frigid air onto it it should prevent thermal damage.

That's my reasoning, at least - haven't done a real-life test or anything.

Agreed. I tried some other cheap mounts, but ended up back with a RAM x mount for my new to me 2014 Trail.

Removal of the radio trim wasn't too bad. The 1" ball diamond mount was screwed to the trim. I used a short connector to put the X Mount just to the left of the Radio. Cost was about $42 on Amazon.
