Remote starter malfunction

NEED SOME HELP!!!

My remote start / door lock was working fine yesterday. This morning, I had new tires installed and an alignment done. This evening, I pressed the lock button on my key. The doors locked, but the markers on the mirrors and the turn signals didn't flash and there wasn't any "beep" when the doors locked. They unlock normally with the remote (flashing signals and beep).

I tried the remote start sequence (press three times and hold on the third) a couple of times. The doors locked, but nothing else happened.

I could use some help. Is there any wiring that could be affected by the tire change / alignment? It seems odd that the remote will unlock (with a light and sound confirmation) and will lock but no lights or sound.

Sounds like a wiring issue and your remote start went into safe mode to prevent further damage. I would take it back to whoever installed the remote start.

The remote starter is an OEM. It is the Toyota factory system. I got to thinking (while I couldn't sleep trying to figure this out, maybe there's a relay or fuse that's gone bad.

I have an 8 year / 75K extended warranty...bumper to bumper. I guess I have to make an appointment with the dealer...that will ruin half a day.

We leave for Yellowstone on 7/30 and I just don't have time for this!

I AM NOT CRAZY!!!!!

I even got up after going to bed last night to try to start the truck and used the remote to lock the doors. I went out in the rain to double check and they did lock. I could hear the actuator when I pressed the button. Again, I AM NOT CRAZY!

So...I just went out to get the owner's manual and check for any fuses or relays that might be involved. Figured I'd try the remote once more.

IT WORKED just like God and Mr. Toyota intended. I would still like to know why it stopped working and started again without any attempt at repair.

I'm glad that yours is working properly again.

My factory remote start unit died and never came back to life, even with 4 hours of support from a Toyota dealer. I gave up on the factory remote start, its poor range, and lack of feedback if you can't see the vehicle (I work at an air traffic control tower so tall I can't see the parking lot). I paid the dealer to uninstall the factory system, then went to a CompuStar dealer and had them put in something with better range and two-way communication. I added options for windshield wiper heaters and rear defroster to come on with remote start if (internal) temperature is <42F, a worthwhile cost and must have in Midwest winters!

I'd strongly advise you consider a similar aftermarket route should your remote start no longer start the vehicle. There was no indication for this, the remote start sequence simply no longer started the vehicle, but everything else worked normally.
