Remove Navigation? / 2010 LE

Hi All,

Looking to buy a 2010 LE and have found a few but it seems hard to find the "just right" truck without the Nav system. I would prefer one without Nav.

My question is this, does anyone know if I remove the Nav, get the stock radio and a mirror with the backup LCD can I swap out and get everything (BT audio, BT phone with Mic, radio, mp3, etc) working?

Wait, I'm still trying to understand what you're saying, my bad.

If the below is true, then yes anything is possible, but it comes at a price.

So you want to take this:

I imagine it is possible I just don't know how much if any custom rewiring will be involved.

Since you're removing it, I feel like it will be a lot easier than adding it in, and will be far more feasible. I haven't done it, you'll probably want to check with someone who knows a lot about these trucks, but you could probably recover some money selling the nav headpiece since it's worth a good amount in good condition. You'd need a new trim piece since yours will have huge openings, but that isn't very expensive. I doubt there will be much if any custom rewiring since you don't need anything added in, you just need things removed.

That being said, unless you're being sold this T4R for a steal, it would probably be easier to buy and SR5 without the nav headpiece and with the other options you want.

I would say the one I am looking at is a good deal. And the only thing I don't really like about most of the ones I find is the Nav.

So something like this should be relatively easy to install?

You'll need to check wiring schematics as the jbl/nav system has outputs going to external amp so I don't believe it's nearly as simple as swapping out the hu's.

Huh, I would think it would be pretty easy to downgrade it. You might (probably are) right though.

But the bottom line I don't see why someone would go through all this hassle and pay to downgrade their truck.

Just don't use the nav! Downgrading to a stock Toyota HU makes zero sense to me. Swapping for an aftermarket unit I can see.

But the bottom line I don't see why someone would go through all this hassle and pay to downgrade their truck.

Looking at antmans sub install and how he tapped off for inputs, then looking at wiring diagrams I think the question would be if the voltage out on the Entune system would even work with the separate amp in the Jbl system. May work just fine, but that would mean the connections are all the same, as well as wiring, and I don't believe they are. I had an interesting time tapping in a 5 channel amp to the jbl system and was not wired the same as the entune so I had to get creative.

Not sure why someone would want to remove nav and go entune either, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

IMHO the stock head unit for non-nav vehicles is one of the worst parts of the 4Runner. The menus are not though out well and you simply cannot see the damn thing with sunglasses on. I would see if you can buy the surround for the non nave unit and try to put something else in its place. Or just keep the nav and save the expense. I think its going to be pretty hard to find a Limited without nav, as limited buyers are usually looking for all of the bells and whistles. All of the non-Trail units I looked at had nav.

Exactly. You are going to pay money to downgrade? The screen has an on/off button, if you really don't like nav then don't leave it on the map mode. To each his own, but this doesn't really make sense.
