Replace '08 HU with aftermarket & retaining ipod hookup and steering wheel controls?

I'm aware of how to physically replace the stock head unit in my '08, but would like to put in an aftermarket deck and be able to retain
1. the steering wheel controls and
2. the iPod input jack in the center console

Does schosh or anyone else make a wiring harness adaptor for the '08 that will accomplish both of these things?

on a semi-related note, any suggestions on a decent aftermarket double-din deck to get? I am going to keep the factory speakers for the time being, but the factory deck is just sounds like crap. This is my wife's 4R, so don't need anything too fancy, just something to provide better sound clarity and some freaking mids!

What type deck are you looking for?

If you're looking to add navigation, getting an Eclipse unit will allow you retain steering wheel controls without needing any wiring kit. It's completely plug and play.

Are you looking to retain the auxilary input or you're looking to add iPod control and functionality? Not sure which aftermarket units will let you keep the auxilary input, but most have an interface kit that lets you control the iPod through the headunit and keeping the iPod out of sight.

I think Metra has the steering wheel interface harness for aftermarket head units.

I think the only unit that will let you keep both is the Scion units which sound much better.

I don't really care about ipod functionality...I prefer to control it from the ipod in my hand anyhow. I just like the hookup in the console. I guess I could just run a preout to the same location.

I would get an eclipse, but having owned a few on other cars
1. my wife doesn't need that kind of quality/price
2. would be wasted on stock speakers
3. damn those decks are f'ing ugly!

forgive my n00bness, but you mean a factory deck from a Scion car?

Yes, a factory Scion headunit from a xA, xB, tC or xD. IIRC, all are made by Pioneer and the Navigation version is an Alpine.

For an aftermarket deck there are no such adapters for both functions in one.

But seperately:

PAC makes different steering wheel control adapters for all brands of stereos.

Your aftermarket stereo manufacturer will make the ipod adapter...

I've been looking for the vehicle harness online, but not sure which one to get. It is either the TA02B or the TA02RB?

From what I've been able to find out Eclipse has the same plugs in the rear as the factory HU. I would call Crutchfield to confirm this however.

Well here is the picture of the harness for my eclipse HU. It's still hooked up to the harness for my 94 Ford Ranger, but that will be undone as soon as I can figure out what harness I will need. I would just cut the factory harness on the T4R but I don't want to void whatever warranty there is for the T4R.

Well I just got the Schosche face plate kit and wire harness today. I'll try and see if I can't get them installed tomorrow after work! Can't wait to get that in so I can bump my subs in there.
