Replaced JBL Sub/Added Amp: Install Pics/Info

did you set the hpf and lpf to my suggestion or riceandpho, because he suggested you put both at 80hz which is wrong.. ouch on the setting on your amp.. there is no reason they should be that high.. how much output are you getting from the sub.. remember its just an 8' sub on 250rms , its not gonna drop bombs , but you should be getting a decent amount of output. you need to set the input sensitivity using the link I suggested, or your gonna end up burning your coils on your sub..

They were at what you suggested and the frequency filter on the amp at 150 I think.

It's definitely weaker than it could be, especially after hearing spoony's, that's why I was thinking of running the JL amp speaker level inputs to the factory amp outputs for the old sub like he did, his wasn't dropping bombs but it sounded like it should and he got nice bass without blaring the rest of the speakers.

Still nothing helpful. What should I do with the bass boost? WHen I turn inpute sensitivity up, sub volume goes up?

This might sound crazy but turn off crossovers on head unit and see if youhear some boom. If so, you might have some wires crossed up.

So i have HPF at 60 and LPF at 120 (closest my radio would allow to what [MENTION=91713]ddnww[/MENTION] said) and I turned the gain down till the volume started to decrease while playing a 50hz tone, switched the HU setting from sys1 - sys2 and it sounds better. also switch the "sub phase" from normal to "reverse" and it made a big difference?

If you have this sub installed in the stock enclosure, which is a sealed enclosure, then you don't actually need the hpf, using the hpf is for protection from low bass which can damage your sub IF its in a ported enclosure. If your not going to use the dmm to set your gains, next best thing is turn your gain all the way down, then with deck 0'd out, turn it up till it starts to distort, then back off just a bit, then increase the level of gain till the sub distorts then back off just a bit.. this will be your max for front and sub, then you can adjust bass treble etc to your liking.

bass boost only boosts bass at a certain hertz for example it will boost 40hz.. so your not boosting all the bass. to make sure your getting all you can out of your setup.. I would readjust it.. turn the sub off or the gain all the way down.. and turn your volume up until you hear distortion, not necesarilly to the highest you would put it, but to the highest it will go without distorting, then back off a tad, this gives you headroom. then leave it that high, and adjust the gain in the same manner. this gives you the highest you can go with your stereo system without distortion , which will keep you from damaging your speakers, amp and sub.

So [MENTION=55237]spoon[/MENTION]y G and I compared installs (like I said n my previous post) and he tapped the speaker level outputs POST FACTORY AMP which led to the second JL amp so the sub was getting doubly amplified. With the gain barely turned up and no bass boost, it sounded pretty bass-y but still clean and tight.

Anyone know if this is safe to do or will it blow out the JL sub?

I was wanting to do this too to get a bit more power out of the sub. CUrrently I used the RCAs in the back of my head unit.

I lost the speaker level input wiring doodad for the amp so I was just going to tap the stock sub wiring harness post factory amp use a line out converter and run RCAs to my JX250 amp and then wires to the sub.

Someone tell me if im going to blow stuff up?? :wow:

yeah the sub cone is fine, it's basically brand new, amp is working fine I think? It has a green light on it says its working lol

hook up a multimeter to your JL amp and check to see how much voltage it's sending to the sub with gain at 0 then at half.

how could i tune the line out converter? i dont think theres an adjuster for gain on the factory amp.

if switching the phase of the sub from normal to reverse, check out the polarity of the sub. use sys1 on deck, since the amp is directly wired from the alpine, i would suspect a bad rca.

Weird you say that, I had a loose RCA on the amp inputer that i plugged back in and it sounds better, but again thats bass boost all the way up and gain turned 85%

Polarity of sub was good on install, only worked one way
