The Walker is as quiet as OEM. The other thing is that it hangs better too. My doesn't sit below my frame rails like the OEM did.

Another option would be to get a Gibson cat-back from [MENTION=9]Jason B[/MENTION]. This is comparable to the TRD cat-back's, and has a deeper tone to it.

Correct. And if you go with the stainless version, it's lifetime warranty, even against rattling inside the muffler.

My 97 limited is supercharged and I have the TRD cat back with a flowmaster muffler. I still have the TRD resonator aft of the muffler and I always get compliments on the sound.

I need to replace my muffler and have cruised the forums looking for the best alternative to OEM.

My vehicle is a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited with a TRD Supercharger.
I want something that is quite and is going to last....as long as possible. I will also do the work myself instead of taking it to my local muffler shop.

Someone had mentioned Bosal and when I was searching on the forum people have indicated to stay away from Bosal and get Walker...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want it to last a long time get Stainless Steel. I replaced the original muffler in 2008 with some cheap Napa one & it rusted away pretty quickly.
I have the JBA SS Cat back system which is awesome for the money. I dont think you'd like it. It's loud when you get on the pedal but really nice at idle or cruising.

Hey guys, I just bought a Walker 54681, like MStudt posted in post 5. It's too short for my truck, by several inches. Any help? It's supposed to be a direct replacement. If you google "2000 4Runner exhaust" several other brands and kits come with a much longer tube on the front side of the muffler.


EDIT: found the issue. My truck is a "Federal emissions" style exhaust. I ordered the one for "California emissions".

So if you need the longer one it's part number 55054.

You got it man. I went to Walker's website and found my problem. Hopefully this helps others. Make sure to check which one you have before ordering. Lesson learned!

Walker 54681 Quiet-Flow SS

I installed a Walker 54681 Quiet-Flow SS muffler, haven't driven with it yet but I will be leaving for work soon and will post an update tomorrow. So far at idle and revving in neutral compared to OEM I'd rename it "Almost-As-Quiet-Flow". I ordered it and two gaskets from Rock Auto,best price and in stock,they usually have discount codes posted on their vendor forum here.

Although the muffler itself is stainless steel the hangers and pipes/flanges look to be mild or aluminized steel,I painted those areas with high-temp engine paint for protection.

Get new gaskets (Walker part #31384) and hardware because they'll usually be fused to the flanges. The original tailpipe does bolt up but if you want to save some time Walker does offer a replacement (part # 54081). In hindsight I should have replaced the tailpipe,I have cuts on both index fingers from grinding off the rusted hardware at the muffler-tailpipe flange

Update: drove a little over 50 miles,mostly highway. I'm relieved to find no drone when cruising on the highway and sound/tone really isn't any louder than stock. It does have a deeper tone and more rumble at idle,but not annoying or obnoxious. So if you want loud,don't get a Quiet-Flow. If you want a replacement exhaust similar to stock,this is the way to go.

Good product for a decent price. No drone either. The walker might be a little louder than stock when you really get on the throttle, but you really have to be trying to hear the difference to notice
