Replacing door speakers, need opinions

Don't have experience with these alpine speakers but I've have the same set of alpines in my truck for 6 years and my previous Titan for 2 years before that. They sound just like they did when they were taken out of the box. Alpine makes great speakers IMO.

Thrilled with my alpine HU and the ones I had in my old truck. These should be plug n play right?
 
I don't know about the current ones but in the semi-distant past I bought the two way because they actually sounded better than the three way. I was recommended these by a friend that owns a hi-if shop.

can you elaborate a bit?
 
alpine makes some of the best head units, ive always ran them in my vehicles.
however, there speakers suck..

heres a few brands that make quality speakers.

find some in your price range..

diamond audio, arc , hertz, rainbow, morel, focal, mb quart, image dynamics,
re audio, cdt, boston acoustic pro, infiniti

Hmmm... agree to disagree...

my old alpine speakers were fantastic

I read RAVE reviews of both models that i ordered. Usually i prefer JL, but i saw a post on here that espoused the 6x9's. I will post an update. my HU is alpine too.

The general feel I had was that the surface area of the mid/tweeter being considerably larger than the two way blocked more sound from the woofer than on the two ways and an overall poorer sound at a higher price. It's been several years tho.

I have to agree with this, I've had some trouble out of Alpine speakers in the past. I love their amps and head units and would have one right now if they'd had Garmin gps.

I have several friends who swear by their speakers though. Guess you love em or hate em.

I went with MB Quart 6.5 Components front and rear, they sound pretty great but I sometimes wonder if JLs might sound better.

Thanks. I'll post up how I like them. I figured at the price I can't go wrong - they're bound to be better than stock.

i just saw u pulled the trigger before my post.. they sound good. you wont be dissappointed. but i was trying to get you speakers that sound incredible and musically accurate to hear your favorite music the way it was meant to be heard.. . I was a huge JL fan about 8 years ago.. till i learned there is better gear for less money. i know its all a matter of opinion.. im just giving mine..

Yeah haha thanks though I appreciate it. I hope these work out. I got them pretty cheap, it was like 150 for four speakers and as a poor college kid, can't go wrong!!

Did either of you swap the tweeters? I'm thinking maybe going 1" silk dome everywhere except center channel and doing the 3.5 mod
 
After having the runner for a couple weeks now it's almost impossible for me to get past the sound of the stock stereo. Mid range frequencies seem almost non existant; i.e. vocal frequencies, guitar frequencies, etc. Is this a result of the stock head unit or the stock speakers? Or is it a case where I'll have to replace both to get some decent sound quality?

Do you have JBL?

I replaced the HU and the sound is better with the JBL speakers, but I blew one of the 6x9's because It was too loud..

Figures I just see this now, I offered thegardentool my full set of Alpine Type S's and 2 sets of 1" dome tweeters for $150 and he backed out.

As for the center channel, I highly recommend it, as long as you don't mind cutting up the inside of your dash to make it fit.
