20mins once the wheel is off, in my driveway no f@#king lie. It was prob alot easier since i did it the weekend prior with air tools and all the bolts where broke loose. I replaced the same axle twice in 2-3 weeks due to faulty autozone remans. Please dont doubt my mechanical abilities as ive been dealing with tools and cars/ trucks since i was 13. Replacing an axle in a 4runner, on my scale, an easy fix.
I remembered you saying that but it sounded more risky so I did not try it. After I understood where it was supposed to go, it was easily pushed in place with my fingers (using silicon spray).I had the same issue in my write up...I let the axle push it in and it's been leak free ever since...
I am trying to decide if I should try to replace my front axle or take it to a mechanic.
The parts are around $100, I have most of the tools and I am pretty mechanical- just changed front rotors and pads. The dealer wants around $600 which is way to high. I see this as about 1-2 hours for a skilled experienced mechanic. About 4-6 hours if I do it (and all goes well).
What are your experiences and thoughts in doing this work.
Ha, I was just quoted over 800 for driver side cv axle replacement at the dealership in Rochester MN. I guess the price keeps going up, what a joke. Their coupons are funny too, "10 dollars off service".
I was curious about pricing so I called the dealership in Seattle I used to take my vehicles to, I was quoted $881 using new Toyota cv axle, but he offered two other aftermarket options as well, the more expensive option was a rebuilt Toyota unit installed for about $400. That's reasonable. The service guy here in MN told me the aftermarket was only about $50 dollars less. I'm not impressed with these MN Toyota service folks.
Really? I did both of mine in about an hour. Once you get it up and take the wheels off there's literally one single bolt. It took about fifteen minutes to refill the diff.I'll believe that when my **** turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet
Get some cvj red boots if your axles are still good
