Replacing the AC compressor on a 1GR-FE

I got my replacement AC compressor. I want to install it myself but I can't vacuum pump out the lines before recharging it like you are supposed to.

If I purge out all the refrigerant on my own, install the compressor, and run the engine without refrigerant in the compressor, will that cause an issue even if I have the AC off on my way to get it vacuum pumped and recharged?

I don't want to ruin the compressor, nor do I want to pay to have it installed...

Anyone have any insight? Thanks.

There is a switch in the AC line that disables the AC Compressor (you'll see the AC light blink on the HVAC control panel if you try to use it) this is a designed safety feature in the event of pressure loss to not damage the compressor while the engine is running (they just don't engage the AC Compressor Clutch is all)

As long as you leave the AC turned off and don't use Defrost, you're not even going to activate the circuit so no worries there.

Now... about purging the refrigerant into the atmosphere... *Covers eyes and ears and turns around* I don't remember what we were talking about...

you'll have to pay to have it charged anyway, right?

just take it in and have it pulled down. they will record how much Freon they remove, when you take it back for a recharge, they will credit you the amount they took out.

there will be a charge for this, but you wont be paying for the full load of Freon, possibly none at all, if its full now.

Reviving an old thread instead of creating a new one.

Have an 07 V6 sport and AC compressor is not functioning properly. If I am thinking of replacing it myself it might be a good time to may be replace something else that would be accessible. Do I need to replace the condenser as well? Serpentine belt? Any advice?
