So I just got a set of free rear shocks from a 97 landcruiser with only 80k on the ticker. I'm planning to replace the rear shocks on my 97 4runner with these and add his used front coils. My only question is that these rear shocks have what looks like a retaining wire to keep them held together. I'm not too familiar with suspensions and I'm supposed to take this wire off for more flex or does it stay because it has a purpose? Thanks for any advice.

that wire is there just to compress the shock for easy transport.
they can be kinda stiff and hard to get in when you go to install them.
yes you will take it off b4 you install it.
if you let it go it will expand (grow in length) you will have to loosely bolt up one end then compress it a bit then bolt up the other end.

Thanks for all the help everybody. I was clueless since they didn't exactly come with a manual hahaha. And I was just going to run these and save up for new rear shocks. I just got the trd tundra struts not too long ago and lucked out on getting some lc 8 wraps for just $20 for both.
