[Rewrite] How to install phone control and voice command switches

Vehicle:
2008 Toyota 4Runner Limited JBL, no nav.

Background:
My T4R didn't comes with factory nav, I've installed an E7007 w/amber ring before but in the end went back to stock JBL to wait and save up for aftermarket head unit w/nav. Because I don't have factory nav, I don't have the BT phone and voice command switches in the steering wheel (right side pad). This will walk through the install of the switches. Note: installing the switch does not make BT work in itself, it also doesn't enable voice command by itself. In the future, I plan to maps these buttons to an aftermarket nav unit with PAC.

Procedures: (warning: do at your own risk)
1. Remove the negative battery cable from battery
2. Get inside car, starting point looks like this:

3. Next remove these covers on the side of the steering wheel:

4. Remove them by gently prying on the side of the cover closest to you. This is what it looks like removed:

5. Now remove the T30 Torx screw which hold the airbag in. (one per side)
6. Now move the airbag out of the way:

7. Now remove the right side blank pad by removing the single phillips screw.
8. Now take your right hand control switch bank:

9. Put the ribbon cable connector into the back and put the "ears" of the cable holder into their respective plastic fingers:

10. Now connect the ribbon connector on the left bank.
11. Now mount your right side bank with the phillips screw you removed off the blank plate:

12. Reverse the order to put everything back.
13. When you are done it will look like this:

14. Turn your lights on and tests that the right bank lights up amber.
15. Have a beer.

1) What is the part number for the button cluster?
2) Does the ribbon cable exist disconnected from the factory, does it come with the button cluster, or is it a separate part number?

2 separate parts;

1. Right Module #84244-35030-B0
2. Ribbon Cable #84204-58010

If you don't have the right cluster, the ribbon will not be there.

The ribbon is what connects the buttons to the vehicle. It daisy chains to the left side.

I added the right button strip to my 04 Sport with a Pioneer AVIC and Pac module. Everything works perfectly

One question, will this work with an AVIC X930/40 BT?

It's the PAC module that makes it work. I have an AVIC 930 in my 04 Sport (non Nav with JBL). The pac doesn't know what the buttons are for, so when you program the PAC module, you can select what each button will do.

For a Pioneer headunit you need the PAC SWI-PS. For other brands except Eclipse you'll need the Pac SWI-JACK

I ordered the cable and righthand switch controls from Toyota.
Is there any polarity on the ribbon cable because the amber lights are not glowing on the right hand bluetooth controls. It is a 2006 Limited 4Runner. And had a JBL Premium but I got a Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH installed last year.
Please help me as why the light is not glowing. Once the light glows, I'll get the programming done for the bluetooth by the guy who installed the NAV system. Left hand controls are working perfect.

I have the Mic installed with Pioneer Nav and it works perfect through the main unit in the Dash. So let's see if someone had the same problem and have a solution for us.

Hi everyone. I will be ending up buying these for the 2006 4runner we just bought. I have a new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit. I bought a ASWC-1 steering wheel control adapter. I didnt get a PAC unit.

This should still work with the 4Runner correct?

This should still work with the 4Runner correct?

Since you have the after market NAV, you'll have to buy the PAC unit. It's the PAC module that makes the BT buttons to interact with the NAV unit. You need a Mic too.

Hi Finally got everything fixed by the dealership. Now the lights glow on the BT Button and Voice command works fine.
