[Rewrite] How to install phone control and voice command switches

Hi everyone. I will be ending up buying these for the 2006 4runner we just bought. I have a new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit. I bought a ASWC-1 steering wheel control adapter. I didnt get a PAC unit.

This should still work with the 4Runner correct?

Please post a review once you get it installed. I've been eyeballing the new Pioneer line. Thanks.

Since you have the after market NAV, you'll have to buy the PAC unit. It's the PAC module that makes the BT buttons to interact with the NAV unit. You need a Mic too.

ASWC-1 looks like it is the same thing but developed by a different company. Anyways, the new head unit does not have Nav. It does have blutooth and it came with it's own microphone.

I think it is pretty awesome! I have it hooked up to an old computer power supply so I can test it out. If you have an android phone, this is the best head unit on the market. You can get a special Android app that allows you to completely mirror and control the phone from the head unit. AWESOME.

I haven't tested my wife's iPhone on it yet.

Cool, good to hear. I just got a new HTC One, so I'm making the switch from iPhone to Android.

1. Right Module #84244-35030-B0
2. Ribbon Cable #84204-58010

These parts should work in a 2006 4Runner correct? Partznet where I ordered them is trying to tell me they are not for a 2006 4Runner.

I just checked my old invoice form Toyota for these parts. The part numbers you mentioned are absolutely correct for 2006 4Runner models. My steering color is grey, I hope yours is grey too.
At dealership, I remember the technician going to the car and get the code for the color.
I think these switches come in grey and black.

I was reading somewhere that 84244-35030-B0 was the black color buttons. Did you order black or grey? Trying to find out which buttons are black. The original install post #1 they look black to me.

didnt know there was a choice of black or grey LOL....my tints is dark so i cant see it anyways LOL

You know what! I was looking at this B0 of my truck, it is quite dark in color. May be it can match your steering. Or go to the dealership and try and see if they can advise you something, then you can buy it from any other place.
Can you send me a close up picture of left hand control in sunlight?

Yeah PartzNet said the same thing and a google search was fruitless. I went ahead and ordered. I hope it ships soon as my radio installer is coming Wednesday and I want the new buttons to be programmed.

So I learned something interesting I did not know. Most, if not all, these online parts store generally have to order parts from Toyota then they ship them out. That switch is on a national back order and I was told they wouldn't get it in until the 15th which means even later for me. My audio installer is coming Wednesday. So that wasnt going to work.

They did a parts search and found that the only dealer in the nation with one on hand was in Houston of all places. So I called them up and ordered. Should be here in the Austin area in time. It unfortunately cost me $80 more than the other place I ordered. Boo..

My switch was found at Toronto Toyota Head Office but the Cable came from Huston.For the switch I had to pay $158 and Cable was $68 plus 13% tax. Canada is very expensive.
At least, you will get your stuff done on time.

who cares is the installing is coming in on wednesday?

you can remap the buttons easily as long as he leave the unit close by like behind the climate control unit. its only one screw to get it off.

Yeah I know but Im paying him to do a complete job When I put on of those in my wife's car we had a lot of trouble getting it working properly.

I got my part in today. Had tons of work and my final grad school presentation for this semester (nailed it!) so I didnt get to work until 10pm. Got it installed properly. Thanks for the write up and all the help everyone!
